A few more edits from the shy Urban artist i am mentoring, by British Artist Jack on Jun 20, 2015 12:30:34 GMT 1, Hi thomasmer, thanks for your interest, The Edits are in photographic medium at the moment and will be printed ,framed and signed by the artist when we decide on what print surface to use and amounts to release in each limited addition. We can post world wide. What formate would be best for you? At present we are trying to gather as much information as where the edits sit in the market, what do you think? thanks BAJ

If you're trying to showcase some artwork to sell, best print some and show the real thing before worrying about world wide shipping and all that.
Anyone can knock up a google image montage and post it on the internet, but not everyone can make a google image montage into a fine work of art.

He spends a fair amount of time on the ground. I know he is off to New York soon to gather more material to use in up and coming projects. Hey art is subjective every one views it differently, all i can say is i have been artist making a living for 25 years and i see a lot of art and artist, and can say the lad i am mentoring has a very good eye for the right material and putting them together.

Being compared to a urban art being used in the commercial world is not a bad thing if you art looking to make a living out of what ever art field you are working in. You can make your pure art alongside your mainstream art income, being in a creative mind set for longer periods and improving as an artist. Better to do that than working a regular day job and creating evenings and weekends.

A few more edits from the shy Urban artist i am mentoring, by Guaanie on Jun 22, 2015 7:57:25 GMT 1, Correct. Art is subjective. I just don't think there is anything particularly interesting or unique about what he has done. Sure, the photographs are original and he may be a spectacular photographer, but for me that's not something that is shining through (or even apparent). Personally, it looks like something that pretty much anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of Photoshop and a camera can do I'm afraid.
I also think you need to put less emphasis on trying to feel out the market for selling this stuff and instead take the time to guide his creativity by coaxing out his own individual style. He might become popular. He might not. Only time will tell. If he does become popular then that will be the time to start thinking about print releases.

A few more edits from the shy Urban artist i am mentoring, by British Artist Jack on Jun 22, 2015 17:03:30 GMT 1, Thank you manicpixiedreamgirl for considered feed back on this artist. As my personal knowledge of photoshop is limited its good to find out the process its self is something most people could under take with ease. Can't a piece of art be deemed to be good if the process used to achieve the final work is a simple one?
As regarding trying to feel out the market for selling this stuff. I am just interested in helping look in to the possibility of finding a way of him earning from his art now he's finished college. Due to special and personal circumstances that the artist has overcome to get to this stage of his artistic development, his ability to create balanced art compositions still inspires me to help him get the first chance. Creating and enjoying urban art is a huge part of his life and fully immerses him self in all cultural aspects of the Urban art scene. 24 years of being a professional artist full time has taught me, there always is a market for your art, some times i takes time to find it.

Take a step back and listen to what people are telling you, as it stands this work is not goin to make him a career in the urban art world.

A few more edits from the shy Urban artist i am mentoring, by British Artist Jack on Jun 24, 2015 10:27:40 GMT 1, Hi Dan, Thank you for your concerns about the images used, The respect and permission of the artist who created the original street art used in the edits is an area that needs to be addressed, if the artist does not want the image used or does not want any potential royalties. I would suggest to the lad i am helping, would respect that and with draw the edits. I recognise your lovely face of a lady you created, i think the lad in question was luck enough to find your name and contact you about possibly using this image. You requested it was not used and the lad in question has withdrawn it as asked. The problem seems to be for him is finding it information on who has created the work as most need to keep there identity hidden. This is one of the reasons why i said i would research for him, rather than just post on a image printing site for sale. This subject seems to have opened up a potential can of worms as the legality of images used of original street art to re create art for potential sale. Has any one had any dealings in this area and could advise? thanks BAJ

A few more edits from the shy Urban artist i am mentoring, by natstan on Jun 25, 2015 8:21:09 GMT 1, As it stands now, i think it's very difficult for him to stand out from the crowd with what he is doing. In fact, the images are quite dull imo - no offence. I'm also not sure what are the messages the artist wishes to convey through his works and they most certainly will not make my walls (or most people's walls if I may say).
If he is still young, I suggest he travels more and expose himself to other artists and styles, in order to improve on the orginality and execution of his works. And I'm sure he can and will improve down the road. Just not now.

A few more edits from the shy Urban artist i am mentoring, by British Artist Jack on Jun 25, 2015 8:55:42 GMT 1, Thanks Dan for the information on the copyright issue of the artist work that he they have created on the the street. Its one of the reasons why i suggested to the artist i approached this forum for him and found any relevant information and concerns before he posted any of his edits to a wider public audience. I will pass the information on to them.

A few more edits from the shy Urban artist i am mentoring, by gatecrasher on Jun 25, 2015 9:02:06 GMT 1, I imagine it would be fairly easy for the artist to add his own "street" part of the composite image. As others have said, using a known image from another artist opens up a whole copyright can of worms.

Young artist will always come along and produce art that challenges the establishment using new technology and techniques some good some bad thats the way the art field has rolled for years. I am glad that i have broached these questions and got some answers for the artist concerned and any other young artist looking for information in this area. thanks again for your input. BAJ

We are just providing constructive coments whatever we feel is not working or can be finetuned. It's good you used a forum to do this. Of course, it's important for him not to get too swayed by what the market wants, hence making him a copycat of other artists or falling prey to the situation of just creating works which sell. Continue improving, continue evolving!

A few more edits from the shy Urban artist i am mentoring, by Dan Kitchener on Jun 26, 2015 5:43:10 GMT 1, I'd personally suggest moving away from the computer and getting to grips with some tangible paints or other mediums and then seeing what he/she creates using these, then perhaps using the computer as a tool, as one part of the image making process and manipulating imagery he has created himself. It's very easy to become overwhelmed by the capabilities within image software, but in reality the images can, in some instances look dull, contrived and very uninspiring. I personally feel a traditional approach is key, giving a strong art foundation, aspects such as dealing with form, light, composition and colour can't be achieved with just button clicks. Experimenting and 'playing' with art and mediums at early stages is so important, and in my opinion allows for a much better use of technology at a later stages. No one is trying to discourage the young artist, and he/she shouldn't be disheaterened by any comments. Big brushes or cans, huge canvas, and let yourself go! Then see what happens....be interesting to see any developments in their art, so feel free to post further progress. Good luck!

A few more edits from the shy Urban artist i am mentoring, by monsoonking on Jun 26, 2015 23:52:03 GMT 1, I could see these working as book covers for pulp urban noir novels, but as fine art, they fail. There's just not enough aesthetic or conceptual interest to carry them off. The artist needs to keep playing until he finds his own voice. Simply layering urban edifice with graffiti feels vaguely mechanical.

A few more edits from the shy Urban artist i am mentoring, by ABC on Jun 27, 2015 8:18:33 GMT 1, The copyright issue will always be something an artist needs to tread carefully around. Styles and influences are one thing but directly photoshoping other people's work could prove costly later down the line. Just look at the arguments that went on with Jack Vettriano's work and the fact he copied directly from an artists instruction book. That said, these things are not in the mind of someone starting out so it's good to know early on. Certainly wish them luck though.
