New Faile - Sweet Sins Brooklyn, by soupy on Jun 23, 2015 1:28:02 GMT 1, always like these big prints and 20+ silkscreens by faile....
the only thing i'd say is that i'd wish her dress didn't blend so much with all the other dark colors. maybe just a tad more contrast.
still... i'm sure it'll look great in person (per usual).

New Faile - Sweet Sins Brooklyn, by Amber Halo on Jun 23, 2015 2:24:30 GMT 1, My eyes aren't the best, but does anyone else see an express reference to Brooklyn in the work? I know Faile is Brooklyn-based, just wondering if I'm missing some other connection in this work itself.

Agreed, I think it's a strong piece, but overall quite dark. The "in process" piece with dominant whites is almost more intriguing than the final work.
I'm tempted to take one of these down, though I already have the two ballet pieces and don't want to make my apartment look like a Faile shrine.

New Faile - Sweet Sins Brooklyn, by andyroo0312 on Jun 23, 2015 12:30:27 GMT 1, This would look great with Stiletto's or Brighton Beach. I really like the block prints Faile have done and as always the quality of the printing is top end. I just wished I had a bigger house so I could hang all the art I love..

New Faile - Sweet Sins Brooklyn, by Howard Johnson on Jun 24, 2015 20:33:49 GMT 1, I know the image has been done to death but I'm still holding out hope that they release the block sub rosa image they did for laminate. My favorite faile image, and it was used for a shady company produced on a cardboard box, seems like such a waste.

New Faile - Sweet Sins Brooklyn, by Jimmy Oscar on Jun 24, 2015 22:31:30 GMT 1, I only hang art on my walls that I can look at and get some meaning from.
What the hell do you all see in this?
A woman holding an old rifle, with a purple tree and a werewolf howling in the background - and it says sweet sins.
Would love to know what meaning you get from it - apart from saying you love it cause it's Faile.

I can see what you mean and I don't necessarily disagree in relation to this image. That being said, Faile is one of the only artists I personally buy for aesthetic value alone. Their screenprints are strikingly beautiful and the images are perfect for fans of comic or pop art such as myself.
That being said I would argue that they are also one of the best artists at exploring (and subverting) gender norms in modern society. Whether is a woman demanding to exercise both her professionalism and femininity while being swallowed by modern corporate america ("Happens Every Day"), or a man driven mad by his desire to reconnect with nature ("Wolf Within"), their work explores these topics in genuinely interesting ways. Consequently, these have become the most sought after images because the usually nuanced message combined with their impeccable execution makes for a really damn good piece of art.

I felt that way about faile, then I bought badlands 150 series. I now own ten faile pieces. You have to own a faile piece before you can appreciate them as artists.

I think once you collect prints for long enough you find you get abit sad and get genuinely excited when you come across a really well produced screen print and for me these big faile prints are the business on that front, so as well as being pretty to look at they have that appeal also. It my not be the deepest image ever but a woman with a gun is still quite an empowering image given that the gun has long been solely a masculine icon. I spend a lot of time in Dubai and a woman with a gun would still be largely seen as a joke there.

Would love to know what meaning you get from it - apart from saying you love it cause it's Faile. I have just taken my meds so i have a shot. Knowing the boys that are Faile the meaning will be a little cryptic and quite profound. I personally think in some way it is a story of the Choctaw Indians and the upheaval that occurred around the 1830,s in the 'Trail of Tears' when the Choctaw were made to move from Alabama/Louisiana area to Oklahoma. The woman represents the new land owners. I believe at the top left is a Panther and down the bottom is a owl which both feature heavenly in Choctaw folklore. The Panther is a protector as well as a warning of Danger. The owl could be Ishkitini and represents death and at last to tie it all together the purple tree, which looks very much like a Cedar? which could be a reference to a book written by Tim Tingle titled 'House of Purple Cedar' which is a story of the Death of 20 Choctaw girls in the late 1800,s.. How do ya like dem apples..

New Faile - Sweet Sins Brooklyn, by behaviorist on Jun 25, 2015 17:13:05 GMT 1, congrats to all who bagged one. this is my first non-pick up of a Faile piece in ages, as much as I like it. Just don't have the room. Just one more anticipated regret. So it goes.
