Offering without intention , by 25127096 on Aug 16, 2015 18:01:08 GMT 1, Am I extremely paranoid or is this something that happens to most? I have never sold a canvas or print before but after finding out how much a small fencer went for on here I thought I could do with the money at the moment I'll sell mine. As this is the forum that has helped Kunstrasen grow I thought I'd offer it here first.
It feels like people only bid it up for hype without any intention of purchasing. The first guy wanted to buy it from Belgium but wanted to pay three different times as gift payments but then wouldn't answer the phone or call me at all.
The next bidder under has contacted me since and offered to pay but from America this time and once again will not call or send his number.
Am I missing something here it all just seems a little fishy, its on the Bay now as that's the only way I think I will sell it.

Offering without intention , by Deleted on Aug 16, 2015 18:09:12 GMT 1, Welcome to the forum.
There are plenty of great members to do deals with, but unfortunately there are also a lot of dead ends when it comes to selling. You just have to get used to taking the rough with the smooth. If you're unsure you're best to ask for references for any potential buyer. General rule is if you're not comfortable with the buyers terms don't go through with it.

Offering without intention , by Larry David on Aug 16, 2015 18:24:45 GMT 1, Agree with the above, I have had lots of deals break down on here both buyers and sellers suddenly go quiet, and lots of really easy deals go through , personally once I agree a deal I like it concluded quickly whether buying or selling.
References are a good starting point but then again everyone starts from zero so trust your gut!

Offering without intention , by 25127096 on Aug 16, 2015 19:01:59 GMT 1, Thanks guys I agree but I mean people with vested interests just throwing offers around without any intention of buying so others see it and expect to pay more in the future. For instance a bidder with the same piece of art or others pieces by the same artist. Although that might upset some people I'm not accusing anyone what so ever of doing this I'm just being honest with my thoughts into it and like I said earlier I'm just asking if others feel the same or have had the same experience. I think it's a perfectly normal assumption as the majority of art prices seem to change with the hype.

Offering without intention , by Deleted on Aug 16, 2015 20:00:52 GMT 1, I think it's inevitable that some collectors who have a few pieces by an artist on the rise would engage in hyping prices. However, the Kunstrasen collectors I know on this forum (mainly long time members) are not guilty of this (in my opinion).
I have a few canvases and already have a fencer but would love another so would rather the prices were lower!

Offering without intention , by Dungle on Aug 16, 2015 22:01:35 GMT 1, There are loads of time wasters on here, but there are also a lot of good people to who are great to deal with. Just do your research and get references for a buyer before you accept their offer.

Offering without intention , by Shoeless on Aug 17, 2015 4:54:17 GMT 1, As the others have already stated...sometimes buyers go quiet. I also notice you've mentioned phone numbers/calling. In my opinion and experience, this can complicate things further with different time zones and busy lives. Often times I don't have the time to deal with buying. If I want something, tell me where to send payment and Ill give my address. I understand this is very impersonal, and I would prefer it not to be this way. It would be great to be in London and meet up over pints or admire other collections, but we are a worldwide community and thats sadly not always possible. My suggestion is to arrange the deal via messages. Good luck! There are loads of great members......and a few timewasters.

art attracts nutters.
Just set a price and stick to it and keep the transaction simple and in your favour.

Offering without intention , by kinesis on Aug 17, 2015 10:11:09 GMT 1, I feel like that you caused this one on yourself, by the way you were selling this piece. You were taking offers for 48 hours. It's not an attack on you just my opinion. You could of just went down your list of bids and sold it to the legit buyer that would of paid, unless it was just a price you didn't want to sell it at?

I have to agree with you a little but I held it for 48hrs to give everyone chance, I know how much some people are after one so I though I'd try and be fair. Obviously I wanted a few bidders like everyone but definitely lesson learn next time there will be a price. I did also contact the second highest bidders he didn't want it at the time. I lost a little faith at that time and didn't bother for a couple of weeks

Offering without intention , by kinesis on Aug 17, 2015 19:08:33 GMT 1, I was very interested in it, but when the bidding went all crazy and stuff it was hard for me to believe that all were legit bids. I just wished you went down your list and sold it to a forum member. Anyways good luck with your sell.
