Man arrested for stealing and selling Invader street pieces, by Dr Plip on Nov 21, 2015 10:34:18 GMT 1, "...alleged perpetrator of the theft of several works by street artist 'or Space Invader Invader' exposed in the streets of Paris (France), some worth more than 200,000 euros."
I'm not sure I agree with that.

I'm not sure I agree with that. it's a bit like when the police do a drugs raid and they quote a 'street value' of the consignment ... most of the time I see a 39 tonne juggernaut truck needed to haul it away ...

Man arrested for stealing and selling Invader street pieces, by Dr Plip on Nov 21, 2015 11:18:21 GMT 1, I think it is hard to prosecute someone for stealing and selling illegally made art... I agree. But what if the artist that put it there is saying it's his property and it's worth squillions?
I mean, if we find a wallet or a dropped Picasso in the street, the original owner can still lay claim to it at any time can't they?

Man arrested for stealing and selling Invader street pieces, by Dr Plip on Nov 21, 2015 11:27:08 GMT 1, Invader's moving (has moved?) into Banksy territory now though. His work is unlikely to be treated as vandalism or graffiti now. Now it's expensive art.
I'm surprised he's got le fuzz involved though. He's now saying that his street pieces have a substantial value, whereas before, if you took one off a building without his nod, they were just some random bathroom tiles. Either this guy was making quite a bit of cash or he was making quite a dent in Invader's street work.
As annoying as it is to see street art removed and flogged, it does seem to be a sign of healthy kerching interest in a street artist and not bad publicity either.

Man arrested for stealing and selling Invader street pieces, by Dibbs 45 on Nov 21, 2015 11:30:11 GMT 1, Indeed the value of the wall outweighs the prosecution of criminal damage in the eyes of the owner. However if permission is given the owner has right to put in a complaint of theft and criminal damage like anyone else, as the art become their property. In view of whether its criminal damage or theft their needs to be a victim for prosecution.

I mean, if we find a wallet or a dropped Picasso in the street, the original owner can still lay claim to it at any time can't they? Very true... Interesting to know how this works out... the difference would be that either with the wallet or the painting, we can provide documents proving your ownership (an id card in the wallet or any invoice for the painting). Here there is nothing supporting his ownership, tiles are from a supermarket, anyone can get the same, Invader claims he is the one who puts them on the wall but there is very little evidence (many "fake" are in paris and they are not by Invader), they have so far no resale value as there is no COA and many are damaged, so I just don't get his move. I believe the aim is just to scare people, which is a good thing. The only problem I have is that you cannot arrest people for nothing or just to scare them, you need legal ground. Arbitrary arrest by anonymous street artist doesn't sound right to me...
