Donald Trump, by Deleted on May 3, 2019 4:07:16 GMT 1, I didn’t read anything that suggested to me that people were expressing “extreme left” views. Your hyperbole undermines what you have to say. Using phrases like plain evil, being on a par with fascism etc. It’s all just so over the top and unnecessary. And your sarcastic comment recently referencing a synagogue was in exceptionally poor taste in my opinion. You aren’t going to change anyone’s mind with these sorts of comments. I know centre right people that I have perfectly pleasant debates with. You might find that you can too if you reign it in a little. you cant reason with crazy coach... To admit that you use Fox News as a source of information is insanity in itself. I uesed to watch Fox News from time to time just to see the other side of things for perspective, but it is almost unwatchable. Its a propaganda machine spewing fear, hatred and misinformation almost on a daily basis. There are only a few reporters that are even watchable and could qualify as journalists. The rest are BARELY TV personalities. I read most of my news through digital formats of major newspapers. I feel its a lot less biased to one side or the other. The Washington Post, although a more liberal newspaper, is constantly hosting right wing nutjobs in their editorial sections which gives me perspective, but only seems to solidify my stances. Republicans used to be people whom I just have fundamental difference with. But these days, I find it hard to name Republicans who I can even say I respect. They have become a bunch of spinless feckless imbeciles aboard a ship of fools captained by the douche who bears the name of this thread. God help us all... So who's your Democrat pick for 2020? I could extend that question to everyone here. Really wondering who everyone that's on the left would
a) want to be the next President b) think has the highest chance of beating Trump.
For b) I'd say Biden with an Obama endorsement would be the best pick, but would a party that's moved so far to the intersectional left really pick a 99 year old man that has a history of groping woman and young girls?

Donald Trump, by Deleted on May 3, 2019 4:11:44 GMT 1, Sorry blanksy, you can never substitute having these conversations (for me ongoing for 20 years) within the population and across the political spectrum for what you see on social media and read on forums. Not living in the US sadly kinda limits my chance to have these conversations within the population Lived in Las Vegas for 3 months and visited other parts of the country about 15 times and had a great time talking to every day Americans, left right and centre. Your country truly is amazing and it saddens me to see your mainstream media present it as a bad place to live.

Donald Trump, by Chris JL on May 3, 2019 8:09:32 GMT 1, For the ones that can read, Mueller’s letter to Barr: www.documentcloud.org/documents/5984397-Letter-32719.html#document/p1
Key extract: “The summary letter the Department sent to Congress [aka Barr’s letter] and released to the public late in the afternoon of March 24 did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance of this office's work and conclusions”
But beside “context, nature, and substance”, all the rest was truthfully and honestly represented by Barr - I guess he’s got the title right.

His summary was on par with his job description. No collusion, no obstruction. It's gonna make a great campaign-slogan for Trump in 2020.

Stagnant wages bad. It’s also fun to note that people only cheer for the improvement of Americans only when a polical party they approve of is in office. Add to that those numbers were wildly shit on when Obama was putting up good numbers by the current POTUS. chief wants it both ways talking outta both ends as always.
A lot of what you add in conversation represents the worst and most divisive my fellow Americans like to promote in conversation. As much as you think you understand, you sound like the same parrots you blast on the regular.
Just stop.
Sincerely
Registered Independent and swing voter for 21years.

Yes... unemployment rates are down drastically and thats a great thing. But are you really gonna chalk that up to Trump? I would chalk that up to 3 thing: the Pruitt/Wheeler environmental deregulation allowing companies to pollute more without consequence, a tax cut for the rich and for companies, and the bullying of the fed forcing their hand to reduce interest rates. All three of these things are either terrible, unprecedented, evil or unethical.
Mr Pruitt and Mr Wheeler, the people who have deregulated the environmental regulations is just a sad thing to see. From the Keystone pipeline, opening up bears ears Natl park, exiting the paris climate accord, etc, none of these things are a good thing for the planet and I would argue unethical.
The tax cuts are an absolute joke. The tax cuts were intended to allow companies to keep more of their money and then use the funds to build out their infrastructure and create jobs. They havent done that. Instead theyve bought back their own stock and again, this just helps the wealthy.
And lastly, the demands of Trump to lower interest rates publicly and lashing out at them is unprecedented. The fed is supposed to move on monetary policy independently. Chairmen Powell was publicly bullied to lower rates and keep them that low for the foreseeable future. Interest rates this low allow banks to make more risky loans, and mark my words, we are going to have another financial crisis because medium sized business loans are currently being made and bundled (at junk) at record paces. Its only a matter of time until these businesses implode and are not able to afford their loan rates.
But I digress.... If you think that Trump is personally responsible for this, thats your opinion and im not gonna change it. Love him or hate him, the soil that fertilized this growth was Obama, although he will not get the credit he deserves.
now... BACK TO ART!

Donald Trump, by moron on May 3, 2019 20:51:37 GMT 1, banning sites (outside of criminal sites)is like parental controls for idiots....most sheep cant think for themselves and actually believe what they read on the interwebs....putting tech sites in charge of controlling this is nothing more than censorship at the hands of a corporation with no moral compass other than mob rules....especially if they are making ad revenue off it...everyone is looking for justification for their view, not the truth Who would you suggest to be in charge of controlling social media/tech sites? Honest question because I can't think of any entity that I'd want to have that much power. Big social media sites should be made to abide by the countries constitution. Regarding freedom of speech etc.
They instead are run as private businesses and pander to their biggest shareholders whims.

Donald Trump, by moron on May 3, 2019 20:58:33 GMT 1, You’re on a one man far-right tirade today @blanksky . Quite day at the office?! The day and age where a centre-right person gets characterized 'far right', and someone trying to have a civil discussion as 'on a tirade'. Sometimes I think we should all just vote libertarian and get this whole political stuff over with. People don't want to listen to each other anyway. Just lefty paranaoia thats all.
These lefties who are mostly white virtue signalling hypocrits, see far right (nazis) under their beds the same way that people saw reds under the beds back in the fifties and sixties.
Another reason they shout racism is to deflect from their own racism and hypocrisy.

Donald Trump, by moron on May 3, 2019 21:01:05 GMT 1, I see the dipshit BLANKSY from Holland is still trying to spin his ridiculous, neo-Trump agenda. Funny enough, I've stayed away from this thread seeing as I'm living it every day. BUT, it's still a trip to see a benefactor of a cradle-to-grave welfare system like BLANKSY who has never had to worry about the little things like health insurance and student loans trying to spin Trump as some kind of savior. I love that someone mentioned Trump's 'birther' campaign against Obama while he was a private citizen in '11 and the dipshit from Holland tries to spin it as a legitimate attempt at a Republican investigation. Which it might be, in some strange, Goldwateresque universe that harkens back to the days of cotton and the confederacy. Talk about spinning that Goebbels propaganda... it's f**king gross and typical. No attempt to think. Just knee jerk neo-con reactions with absolutely no truth behind them. Lie, lies and more lies. Just like Trump. Why are you so hateful towards foreigners? Btw, I finished university with 25k in debt as come from a rather poor, 1 parent family, so I had to loan money to even attend university. Also I pay a mandatory 1400 euro each year for health insurance (with a 385 euro 'own risk' which you pay before you can claim money from your insurer), so nearly 2k in total each year. So 'not having to worry' about it in the Netherlands seems rather ignorant of the facts. While it's not much of a problem for me, it is a problem for the underclass to pay a mandatory 120 euro each month. But you are so consumed by hatred that it's an utter waste of time to even respond to you, mr 'neo-con'. Please don't shoot up a synagogue ok? Get help. You will never win a debate with a liar. There are a few on this forum.

Donald Trump, by Leo Boyd on May 3, 2019 22:52:43 GMT 1, Just lefty paranaoia thats all. These lefties who are mostly white virtue signalling hypocrits, see far right (nazis) under their beds the same way that people saw reds under the beds back in the fifties and sixties. Another reason they shout racism is to deflect from their own racism and hypocrisy. Seriously man read a book or something read anything just pick up something from your local 2nd hand book shop and sit with it and have a read i recomend the Ragged Trousered Philanthropist but there is a world of books to choose from just pick one

Donald Trump, by Leo Boyd on May 3, 2019 22:55:41 GMT 1, Lowest unemployment rates since 1969..3.4% economic growth this quarter..orange man bad? Ill give this comment a go and then I will stop posting in this thread as Id like to read stuff that is art related instead. Yes... unemployment rates are down drastically and thats a great thing. Thanks for that You put that far more succinctly than I could and you have injected a nice dose of logical reasoning into this thread that will sadly be ignored. But again massive thanks. And back to the Art

Donald Trump, by d.r. perseus on May 4, 2019 1:41:09 GMT 1, Who would you suggest to be in charge of controlling social media/tech sites? Honest question because I can't think of any entity that I'd want to have that much power. Big social media sites should be made to abide by the countries constitution. Regarding freedom of speech etc. They instead are run as private businesses and pander to their biggest shareholders whims.
Lol
A position held only by the furthest to the right. Wahh! Private business shouldn’t be ran as private business! Unplug if you don’t like it.

Can we also now concede that the big tech companies of silicon valley are not left wing?

Donald Trump, by Daniel Silk on May 4, 2019 2:24:44 GMT 1, Is this type of change in politics around the world due to social media? In the past huge percentages of people never seriously knew anything about their politicians and just voted blindly for parties as a family tradition. The outcome was politicians who never really represented of reflected the true opinions of the majority, but now with social media people know much more detail and feel more encouraged to pick and choose, rather like changing the mobile or electricity supplier. The outcome is more radical politics around the World, but that represent the true character and culture of countries, and that’s also leading to more obvious divisions. We were all under the belief that the world was all slowly becoming united like one big happy family, but now we realise the truth is far from that, and we could even be becoming a more divided world that ever. I’m not saying it’s a good thing, but maybe it’s a reality check? In regards to Trump, it’s a reality check for Americans for them to see what the character of the hidden majority are really like.

The answer to this is probably no i would have thought it was more down to economics and power structures related to economics. It is not like there haven't been populists in power before that 'represent the true character and culture of countries' what ever that may mean. The last financial crash has given a huge boost to the right which is largely funded by stupidly powerful capitalist entities like the koch and murdoch empires who, although not explicitly right wing see the right wing as a tool they can use t shore up their power bases. Marx, if you care to read beyond the manifesto, predicted a lot of this behavior. This isn't to say the internet does not play a part in shaping this but there have always been problems within democracies involving media monopolies. anyway tired now

Having a national vote in a country with such differences between states like the US seems pretty stupid. The way it's set up now candidates have to at least focus some time, money and attention to smaller states.

Do you care to dip into the problem of gerrymandering?

Yes, which is something both parties have done in the past and will be doing in the future. The GOP seems to have been slightly better at it than the DNC.

Does it require a solution or is it a well that party does it better thing? Does it corrupt the American system of voting? Absolutely
