Famous When Dead - new show, by Gentle Mental on Dec 14, 2015 13:08:56 GMT 1, Some interesting pieces here, most under ยฃ300:
gallery.rotofugi.com/exhibits/2015-FamousWhenDead/
which begs the question - why do we crave mediocre signed prints by "hot" names, while ignoring quality originals from lesser knowns?

My own view is that when a gallery or PR company posts an artwork or a print, there is far more feedback on this forum than when an individual artist posts their own art.
Is it due to business tactics and using employees etc to pose as forumites and to big up the latest release etc?

Famous When Dead - new show, by WOOF on Dec 14, 2015 15:56:44 GMT 1, It's just a lot of appropriated imagery, little to no original thought. You say we're ignoring quality originals, but i'm looking for the quality you mentioned, and can't find it. Once you strip out all the pop culture references which for some reason most "street" "artists" just can't stop fucking with (star wars, T&J, TMNT,) all you're left with is a mix of hirst, haring, ESPO, and of all people, monopoly (god knows why.)

I like number 14, the sad Chuck Norris portrait.
What isn't appropriated these days.
Urban art will soon vanish up it's own stencil hole.
As for original thought and appropriation.
Brainwash, Fairey, Invader spring to mind.
Plus it looks like most people don't think outside the box on this forum anyways and panic when someone does something different because they think they can't flip.

"What isn't appropriated these days."
Fair point, but the fact that appropriation is running rampant in the urban art world shouldn't prevent us from expecting more from the artists we choose to support.

Any particular post, or artist's work, you'd like to point to on this one? I'd love to discover some new artists that aren't getting the recognition they deserve.

Famous When Dead - new show, by Gentle Mental on Dec 15, 2015 1:32:43 GMT 1, Famous when dead is an example (which i like, FWD has wit, craft and heart) There are loads of these lesser knowns out there - in your neighbourhood even - struggling - putting in the hours to create beauty - all for the money hundreds would walk by as they rush home to give hundreds of thousands, bunfighting for, for a brainwash print or a signed hirst dot poster etc.
i guess what i'm saying is we should open our eyes and hearts to all struggling artists. And not just the "hot" ones.
