Shepard Fairey sells out, by Black Apple Art on Jan 31, 2016 5:52:38 GMT 1, Literally. Looks like our favourite political commentator has hitched his cart to the Bernie Sanders campaign this time around. Although nowhere near as iconic as ... ... his latest print has still sold out in record time: Flippers gonna get Berned methinks. In retrospect, now this "Hope" piece actually takes on a completely different and unintended satirical meaning which IMO now makes it actually a great piece. Something that Bansky would do out of the gate and only coincidental for a piece that Fairey does for hire.
"They noted that revenues at three companies Fairey controlled doubled from roughly $3 million in 2007 to $6 million in 2009 while he was honored repeatedly, including being paid to design the official poster of Obama's 2009 inauguration and commissioned to create the cover image of Obama for Time magazine's 2008 Person of the Year, which was displayed in an exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery"

Shepard Fairey sells out, by randomname on Feb 1, 2016 17:37:16 GMT 1, In retrospect, now this "Hope" piece actually takes on a completely different and unintended satirical meaning Not really. When this poster was printed, millions of people were losing their jobs every month. Millions of houses were being foreclosed on every month. Unemployment was greater than 10% and climbing. The U.S. was fighting two wars. And more than 22% of Americans didn't have health insurance.
Today, the unemployment rate is under 5%. More than 9 million jobs have been added. The housing market has rebounded to pre-recession levels. We're out of both Iraq and Afghanistan for the most part with no new wars started. And the uninsured rate is down to 9%. More than 15 million more people have health insurance now.
If that's satirical in hindsight, I'd have to wonder what you were hoping for.

Worth reading this from Michael Moore:

Shepard Fairey sells out, by Deleted on Feb 2, 2016 13:10:27 GMT 1, Fairey is good at marketing and taking other peoples images and re packaging them.
He appeals to the sort of people that used to collect collectors plates as in porcelain etc.

I think they are collected by all sorts of people.
I don't know where they have all gone now but feel that people will have big portfolios of Faiery's prints they collected and invested tens of thousands that will be out of fashion in the future as are most things.

Well not that anyone could believe the figure head that we call the "president" truly has any control of anything significant, when this "Hope" took office the US was in a $10 trillion debt and now we are topping $19 trillion, a historic record, and mathematically impossible to repay, so I still stand by it being a satirical comedy. Changing presidents is nothing more than changing the paint job on the tank, aka the illusion of change or "hope". To give this process anymore attention than this post is giving in the the very purpose of its existence. The entire political system is to give the public the illusion of control or power to change and anyone focusing their efforts on this is either part of the illusion or simply delusional.
Anyway moving on.... So what's the next guess on Banksy's next major event?

That's a bit of an odd response. The national debt increased for a few reasons. 1) Tax cuts for the wealthy by the previous administration. 2) Two wars bought on credit. 3) The near total collapse of the world's economy, brought on by deregulation of the financial sector. All of these happened before Obama took office.
That said, I don't think anyone saw the Obama poster and read into it, "I hope our national debt doesn't go up too much."
I think people may have had thoughts more along the lines of:
I hope I can find a new job.
I hope I can afford food for my family.
I hope I don't lose my house.
I hope I can get health insurance for my children.
I hope we don't go to war again.
I hope I can serve my country openly as a gay soldier.
I hope I can marry the person I love, despite their being the same gender.
That's the change I hoped for when I voted for Obama. Twice. And he has delivered on it despite irrational and overwhelming opposition from so many who were horrified to see someone in the Oval Office with a different complexion than their own.
As for Banksy, I'm sure he'll come up with something clever and amusing while making a point. That will change nothing in the grand scheme of things.
