Tinku - Tributo, by tinku on Feb 24, 2016 18:02:54 GMT 1, I just finished cutting/painting this new piece, after 4 months working on it. I am trying to fund a new project, that I hope to release on this platform in a couple of weeks. Therefore, I will put for sale a couple of works. If any of you is interested (or has any questions/comments about the piece), feel free to comment/message me. So far I have only dealt with treweman , so he is my only reference @ UAA. ________________________
Tributo is the portrait of a quiche woman from Totonicapรกn, Guatemala, who was photographed by my father while walking amidst the morning mist on 16th May 1999.
It took me around 900/1000 hours to cut the presumably hundreds of thousands holes that form the image. This is the only version that I have painted so far, but the series could grow to a maximum of 14 unique pieces. I prefer to paint when I am inspired, and therefore I do not paint all 14 versions at once. However, I establish this limit a priori in order to have the capacity to produce new works for future shows, etc. Tributo is signed on the back and not numbered, as each piece will be unique.
Tributo is currently in Mexico City, so I would take care of the packaging myself. It can be shipped both rolled or stretched (deep edge canvas). The second option increases the shipping costs, but can make everything easier/safer, as it would avoid having to re-stretch the piece before hanging/framing it.
Technical details: Handcut stencils, aerosol and acrylic paint on canvas. 105 x 85 cm (41.3" x 33.5") Tinku, 2016

Tinku - Tributo, by Deleted on Feb 25, 2016 1:35:06 GMT 1, Fantastic work.
Particularly like that the original image was taken by your father. Great bond and depth of connection.

Tinku - Tributo, by Rouen Cathedral on Feb 25, 2016 2:12:16 GMT 1, Holy flipping cow. This is incredible.
Can you share the process of how you even cut these? Do you use a computer program to layout the layers?
The skill in making these Is incredible.

Thank you, @japandemic. It is indeed special to be able to work as a team. We have a great time working on common projects.

Thanks, Rouen Cathedral . I do use a computer at the very beginning of the process, to create some basic references and make the layers coincide with one another (this usually takes about an hour, so about 0.1% of the total time). However, all the bridges are planned while cutting. I try to cover all the unwanted bridges of the first layers with the holes of the last ones. This process makes it easier to achieve some textures, but it also takes a long time, as I need to keep the previous layers in mind while cutting.

That's incredible. Maybe it's just me but it's blowing my mind!
Would love to see some type of video with the time lapse showing first layer then each addition layer!
Truly amazing stuff.

Tinku - Tributo, by tinku on Feb 25, 2016 6:20:51 GMT 1, Rouen Cathedral I'm flying to Guatemala in a couple of days (for a short period of time) and I hope to paint this stencil there. If a video of the process is made, I'll let you know.

Tinku - Tributo, by zynaps on Feb 25, 2016 9:54:15 GMT 1, You should also place the story of this photo like you have in your FB profile. This would give substantial context for the work in order to be appreciated! Its not only technique, it is also meaning.

Tinku - Tributo, by treweman on Feb 25, 2016 18:58:57 GMT 1, I am writing this from Mexico, where I have spent several days acting as a chaperone to a college Spanish class. On Monday evening I had the opportunity to spend a few hours with Tinku and his father, photographer 360 degrees. The visit was unexpected, and utterly delightful. As most of you know, I was so taken by Retorno that I bought it from Tinku last year, and he had it shipped to me in New York from a gallery in Australia. The piece is staggeringly beautiful, and politically powerful. And now, having met Tinku, I am even more pleased that I have Retorno in my collection.
Tinku is a true artist in every sense of the word. He is driven to perfection, and is passionate about using art as a medium to shine a light on people who need/deserve to be seen. He is much more interested in exploring art for its impact than on making money. In fact, he told me that he was dismayed that many street artists avoid painting walls in poorer, less popular cities and neighborhoods because it doesn't further their careers. Maybe idealistic, but for me, damn refreshing and sincere.
We all dream about discovering the next Blu or Phlegm, or even Os Gemeos or Blek le Rat. I get to see Retorno every day, and I had the chance to see Tributo in person (as well as other projects), and IMO, Tinku is one of the most talented stencil artists in the world. He is very young, incredibly talented, and unapologetically opinionated. If you love street art as I do, you owe it to yourself to follow his career closely, and if possible, add one of his pieces to your collection.

Tinku - Tributo, by tinku on Mar 4, 2016 2:46:11 GMT 1, Sold (payment pending)
Thanks a lot for the messages/comments. They mean a lot.
treweman , it was a real pleasure to meet you. I hope you had a great time in Cancรบn. Thanks a lot for your words. They are tremendously motivating and push me to keep working and exploring and, at the same time, to keep feeling that nothing has been done yet and that everything can always be improved (I guess that's probably the most exciting thing about art: there is no point of arrival, just a never-ending road...)

Tinku - Tributo, by bdr79 on Mar 14, 2016 13:13:21 GMT 1, Treweman, it's in at the framers now being stretched then framed. As soon as I get it back I'll pop up some pics. Might be a wee or two before i see it back. The guys are good, but not fast!
Gives me time to start clearing a space for it.
