Photos and Stories from Bethlehem, by graeme501 on Dec 18, 2007 1:04:47 GMT 1, hey all
im back from the ghetto and thought id share some photos and just say what a great experiance it was
if u have the chance 2 get out there, definatly do it, u wont regret it ! the art is mind blowing and seeing bethlehem will definatly give u lots to think about
the journey over there was good, and the security checks are strict but not that bad, just stick to one word answers, by now they know what santas ghetto is so there should be no problems. i met up with sham69 and stuey in the hotel and we headed over to jersusalem which was very nice, then headed over to the ghetto
the ghetto is cool, lots of great art and we were the 1st people there to see the new banksy, which was cool, some standout pieces from bast and 3D, and andy from POW was very friendly, even though he did slate my signature, met ron english hoo was very nice and we had a wee chat. then we headed to the church of nativity across the road which is a very worthwhile experiance and gives a sence of peace. they havent filled it with tourist tat which is very refreshing
after getting some nice group photos ouside the ghetto we headed on a tour of the walls which was absolutly fantastic, it really does give an insight to the problems over there and how it must feel living trapped everyday, some brilliant pieces by banksy, faile and blu, we met some palastinian kids who came over to see what we were doing and they were fantastic, joking away with us and posing for photos
the palastinian people are very friendly and fantastic, and all seemed pleased to see us, the money that POW will raise will really help and be appriciated, the refreshing thing about the trip is that the art does come second, its the experiance that will stay with you
a big thanks to all the people who helped me prepare this trip and kept an eye out for me over there - vazie, leo from austraila who made the trip possible, stuey, gaz, martin, leo, leah, louise - the company really did make the trip worthwhile
anyway, heres some photos i took from the ghetto
peace

Photos and Stories from Bethlehem, by scavos on Dec 18, 2007 1:16:48 GMT 1, Top lad Graeme. Cheers for the story and pics. How did you manage to get Banksy's S&S out there in the street? :-) It's so refreshing to hear how everyone who's been are saying the prints are secondary to the experience.

Photos and Stories from Bethlehem, by crazyarsemother on Dec 18, 2007 1:29:35 GMT 1, Great account. Really interesting. Cool photos. What is the ruined building in the first shot? That would make a lovely drawing. The canvas stretching on that banksy is shocking.

Photos and Stories from Bethlehem, by monstris on Dec 18, 2007 9:43:37 GMT 1, Blair was in Bethlehem on Tuesday night. He was staying at the Jacir Palace across the road from the frisked soldier Banksy (corrected).
I don't think he caught much of the art on the walls but he did get a lot of tax free shopping in en route.
Graeme -- you have to come down to London. We'll look after you. You've got a great camera and an even better eye for shots. So pleased to have met you...always remember the wide-eyed wonder with which you viewed Bethlehem and hold it next to your heart. That curiousity and need for understanding will hold you in good stead in the years to come.
What Graeme didn't tell you about the Palestinian kids was that he gave them a sheet of his DFace stickers which they had loads of fun with. There are photos somewhere.
