Kanye West "Famous" Art Installation, by Pavoni on Sept 6, 2016 1:39:40 GMT 1, This is so much of the moment, dripping in irony that it was created by one of the main protagonists (w/ his wife & her family) in this whole creepy, disgusting celebrity fascination gone haywire.
This is an art piece in which I can glimpse the shock, anger, confusion, horror, etc., that must have struck the general public when Warhol did Soup Cans and Marilyns, Lichtenstein blew up comic books from the kids bedroom floor and people put them in museums.
The anger and disgust this piece engenders is right on target, but misdirected towards the artist, the gallery. Curious to see the reaction to this thing 5 or 10 years on.
Blum and Poe are savvy. They were instrumental in bringing the neglected Japanese art of the 1960s and 70s (Mono-ha, Gutai) to the world at large...only after they acquired many important pieces for a pittance.
I think they know exactly what they are doing in giving this sculpture and Kanye the forum that they have.
