artist proof or edition?, by .dappy on Oct 12, 2016 17:15:07 GMT 1, ... I like artists proofs that are 'not quite right ' or different colour way/something different in it.
... the ap edition number should also be known as one or two artists, some would say, have used APs as a way of just increasing the edition number/getting more money ...
...unless there is something different it has the same value as a regular edition piece ...

I guess i'll have to post it in the Show us your A/P thread!

artist proof or edition?, by crashwilliams on Oct 12, 2016 18:00:05 GMT 1, Thanks guys - would love to see that Blek one, sounds brilliant. I have a Nick Walker Mona Shot which was recently framed and I love it. Did read about the edition numbers for AP and some using as a cash cow, guess you never know.
Bone question - what's PP?

artist proof or edition?, by loother on Oct 12, 2016 19:21:45 GMT 1, Unless the AP/PP is different to the main edition, I personally would prefer a numbered edition. Even where they are different, these additions often seem half-hearted. AP/PPs that are identical to the main edition but sold at a higher price are irritating and should be outlawed.

Indeed but every now and again u get something like the coloured IFTL's which are great AP's.

artist proof or edition?, by Bazaaart on Oct 12, 2016 19:42:01 GMT 1, Hi everyone, I work with fine art prints and how usually an Artist Proof is described is for example, up to 50% are the property of the artist and the remainder are donated to worthy cause organizations or sold. But this all depends on each artist and publisher.
They are also impressions that are identical to the regular editions, only difference being the smaller numbers made for AP's. Just my opinion but I think the artists that make their AP's slightly different such as variant editions or adding embellishment to the AP prints makes it more unique and valuable for collectors.

Crackin print. Being a 1/1 really can't get any better I think. Would much rather have the s than an edition of multiples

artist proof or edition?, by Deleted on Oct 13, 2016 8:07:14 GMT 1, What's acceptable as a Ap or PP? I'd be happy to buy one that is testing a different colour or technique but not happy if a layer is slightly off or issue with the ink. I know some people like the subtle imperfections of screenprinting but I'm a little ocd with that. I would of thought some AP's/PP's are from overprinting in case of errors or having to replace prints, those Identical to the edition. I agree they should be numbered and not more than 5-10% depending on edition size. I've had this discussion with artists who don't number AP's some classing them as unique 1/1.

artist proof or edition?, by rjf76 on Oct 13, 2016 8:42:03 GMT 1, Good points stender - I'd only want a 'perfect' print. I'll be paying for the unique nature, not a test or an error which in any other industry would be discarded/destroyed. I have seen some great 'happy accidents' though, which arguably are better than the intended results ha ha - think it also depends on the artist.

Just got the only AP of this Roamcouch covered in Glitter. My avatar is also a Roamcouch AP ed 5 also glitter but in different colours from the main edition. Artist proofs like this are some of my favourites but I find that sometimes Artists can use them to take the piss ( Eelus springs to mind )

artist proof or edition?, by Deleted on Oct 14, 2016 15:03:17 GMT 1, I print the first 4 layers then can't get the colour I want on the final layer until 3rd attempt. That means I have 2 which are slightly different colour to the edition. Those I would call PP's.
I print 4 of 5 layers on my edition and for the last layer I change the thin outline for a thick one. I don't like it so print the rest as a thin line. So I have 1 print with a thick outline. That I would call an AP.
If I want to print an edition of 20x5 layer prints I might print 40 of the first layer, muck up 3 of those etc.....at the end I might end up with 23 good prints. I release 20 as an edition. What do I call the other 3?
It's all very vague and interpretted differently. Same goes for the amount. Someone like me will have A LOT of wastage when printing so I should charge more :-) On a good day I might end up with several extras (rare). I would guess the pro's like Jelous don't make many mistakes.
