Peter along with his then partner Bridget Riley was the Founder Member of Space Provision Artistic Cultural and Educational (SPACE) and Art Information Registry (AIR). Recognized as a pioneer in the development and application of kinetic and luminescent technology within the arts, internationally renowned visual artist Peter Sedgley has produced a vast and diverse body of work over the last four decades, through which, he has continually explored the optical properties of colour, light and motion.
He is an acknowledged Op-artist, who came to maturity in the mid-1960s with several exhibitions at McRoberts and Tunnard Gallery and at Howard Wise Gallery, in New York. In 1966 he was a prize-winner at the Tokyo Biennale. During 1970s Sedgley exhibited widely in Germany, where he was commissioned an audio-visual display for the Donaueschingen Music Festival, in 1972. The following year he had a retrospective at Ikon Gallery, Birmingham. Sedgley also exhibited with the Redfern Gallery and was included in The Sixties Art Scene in London, Barbican Art Gallery, 1993.
Public collections include Tate Gallery, London Arts Council Collection, London Art Museum of Atheneum Chase Manhattan Bank, New York Museum of Drawings, Lund Nagasaki Museum, Japan Neuberger Museum of Art, New York Power Bequest Museum, Sydney Stadtiches Museum, Gelsenkirchen St. Louis Museum, USA Victoria and Albert Museum, London
