Zeitgeist, by phischa on Jan 12, 2017 14:43:23 GMT 1, Dear forumees,
my first child is on its way and due to my big interest in art I want to give him his first art work on his day of birth. My intention is to find a piece which reflects the Zeitgeist of his year of birth. Excursus: My grandpa told me that he had the oppurtunity to buy an original Warhol in the early 60s, which he wanted to give my mom on her birthday. Unfortunately he didn't buy it, but I quite like the idea. For me, Banksy is the most outstanding artist of our time and the perfect match regarding my intentions - unfortunately I missed this train (except the posters which are pretty expensive as well).
Beeing in my twenties, my current funds don't allow me to buy a Banksy or other blue chip artists.
My question is: Which artist represents best the current period of art resp. the Zeitgeist of "our" generation.
Thank you in advance for your help and I'm looking forward to reading your opinion.

A lovingly idea! For my childrens I've only bought artworks from DRAN and Lora Zombie ...because this kind of art is very timeless and childlike.
(...) anyway - a colorful children's room is the greatest

(Not sure what they go for these days, but were still fairly reasonable recently!) Even the ยฃ10 Bristol Museum posters on POW won't be there forever.

Zeitgeist, by cyberkid on Jan 12, 2017 15:21:04 GMT 1, nice.
i bought for my first daughter a wallfriendly yellow "An Homage to Yves Klein" print from Murakami.
If you dont care about "child wallfriendly bla bla bla"...maybe a typical stencil artwork on canvas. Check Fake, Kunstrasen, Tabby etc... Its not too expensive and stencil art (not necessarily this mentioned artists) is representing the "zeitgeist" our generation.
Viel Glรผck bei deiner Entscheidung !

Zeitgeist, by mojo on Jan 12, 2017 16:57:25 GMT 1, How about 'I Promise to Love You' or 'My Heart is With You Always' signed poster by Tracey Emin? Not necessarily the 'zeitgeist' of the year although an artist that will definitely still be remembered in the future. It shouldn't be too expensive, is a fitting gesture and will definitely hold it's value in the years you will spend together. Congratulations.

Thanks cyberkid. I'm already in contact with Fake. It was originally meant for me but you're right, the technique and images of Fake pretty much match all my criteria.

Zeitgeist, by WOOF on Jan 13, 2017 19:28:47 GMT 1, I'd second Shepard Fairey. He's the closest you'll get to what you're looking for without being astronomically priced. Don't make it about buying kid's art, just buy great art, and let him grow into it. Not sure I would have understood the significance of a warhol when I was a kid, but today, I'd be over the moon.
