I have a few hours to kill between work and a gig and was wondering if anyone can recommend anything in the Spitalfields/Brick Lane general area.

NICK HARPER

The Spitz warmly welcomes back the multi talented Nick Harper. The son of folk legend Roy Harper, Nick grew up in a household populated by visiting luminaries such as Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Keith Moon and Dave Gilmour and so was destined to become a musician. Nick became a guitar player from the age of 10 and his recording debut was on his father's record "Whatever Happened to Jugula" in 1985. In the mid nineties Nick's talents were recognised by Squeeze main man Glenn Tilbrook and they went on to collaborate on a number of projects including the critically aclaimed record "Harperspace" released in 2000. To call Nick a superlative singer/songwriter could put his highly lauded guitar talent in the shade, and to call him a guitarist might slight his distinctive, soulful voice and passionate songs. Not forgetting the wild ride that is one of his live shows - from personal introspection to biting political satire via a charmingly caustic wit that would make Groucho Marx proud.

Nick specifically wanted to play The Spitz to demonstrate his solidarity with The Support The Spitz campaign. After this show Nick will be playing a gig on Mount Everest! He will be performing as part of the lovehopestrength foundation at Base Camp on October 9th to raise funds for the fight against cancer. Do not miss this last opportunity to witness Nick Harper in the intimate surroundings of The Spitz at Old Spitalfields Market.
