Safest way to sell, by smishdown on Mar 9, 2017 18:52:29 GMT 1, Sorry if this has been covered before but just wanted to see what everyone else' thoughts were as to the safest way to sell / buy art. Obviously face to face would be ideal but not always possible. I keep hearing horror stories about getting screwed by PayPal and obviously a lot of trust would be needed for the buyer to do bank transfer. So is a PayPal invoice safe or can the seller get screwed even if they follow every little rule? Advice please. Thanks Also same question for privately selling high priced items I.e ยฃ20,000 Would just like to find out people's thoughts and preferences for the best easiest and safest way for both buyer and seller. This is all taking into fact the item is as described and delivered in same state.

Safest way to sell, by Art Fan 2011 on Mar 9, 2017 19:46:48 GMT 1, Face to face can also be very risky, would not be difficult for someone to "steal" your prized Banksy print as you walked along with it, even after a deal was done, you could get robbed thus losing the print and the money (ive heard of it happening!)
Paypal will side with the buyer 99% of the time, so your open to being turned over. Many forum members on here can vouch for one another, that`s how I feel safest buying things. Ignore the "1 post wonders" you are asking for trouble. If I was selling a very expensive item, such as a 20k Banksy I would speak to a "reputable" gallery to see if they could sell it on your behalf or even buy it off you for themselves. I guess the moral of the story is "trust no-one" but take all reasonable steps to reduce your risk of being scammed. And if your using paypal or ebay, expect to get stitched up at some point!

"I have the print your looking for at the price you are offering, If you want it my address is xxxx, Bring cash" Your art collection then gets robbed and you end up with empty wall`s again - I don`t believe there is a true safe way to buy and sell, but hey that`s life - its one big gamble!!

Safest way to sell, by yobaby on Mar 9, 2017 20:05:57 GMT 1, Work/office meet ups. Earlier last year I traded/plus money for an artwork. Seller arrived with his piece, we inspected said goods. I then bank transferred right there and there on speaker phone (obviously once I'd passed security questions Job done.
I haven't bought anything since then but I realise if you're buying from afar this is impractical. Trust and forum reccomendations go a long way for me. There have been some real horror stories as of late. Another option is to meet up at your local bank branch lol!

Everything was done in a bank (Cash transferred, paperwork signed) so both parties felt safe. Bank's a good option if both parties live close to each other. Worst case scenario they have cameras so it shouldn't be hard to track down the person if he robs you.

Safest way to sell, by pingoo on Mar 9, 2017 22:42:47 GMT 1, Always proceed through galleries for valuable artworks. Buyer and seller don't know personal data of each other. Gallery secure the funds before delivering.
Peace of mind have a price.

Safest way to sell, by Cornish Crayon on Mar 9, 2017 23:17:46 GMT 1, I'd face to face at any given opportunity
If it's large sums of cash and pricey prints, exchange in a bank where the cash is being withdrawn
Banks are pretty hot on cctv

What do you class as distance, for peace of mind travel,
I travelled from the midlands to Penzance to buy my first banksy (Picked up a cheeky dface ddog as well)
Make a weekend of a trip, but most all relax and think straight.
And don't be scared to walk away if it don't feel right, I did this with my second banksy........... it worked out in the end but the seller was brilliant and totally understood.
No worries

Blimey! Fair play. Just curious as to people's preferences really, maybe an international sale? Also not all just high ticket items, also preferences of different ways of selling for prints of around ยฃ400, not worth making a long journey but worth enough to hurt if they screw you. Just seeing if there are any fail safe ways no matter how many precautions you take. Sounds like no matter what you do when shipping the seller can always get rinsed (if the buyer is one of those types)

Safest way to sell, by Deleted on Mar 10, 2017 10:50:45 GMT 1, I generally would always do a face to face if possible. All the people I have met of this forum so far have been honest genuine people, luckily!

Safest way to sell, by The Observer on Mar 11, 2017 14:02:44 GMT 1, Why are some members reluctant to post images of pieces they have for sale? They usually will share images via dm or email, but don't want them posted. I've only seen this a handful of times and just trying to understand the reason. Appreciate anybody's perspective.
