New RAE , by lollo88 on Mar 15, 2017 10:55:50 GMT 1, honestly, I usually do appreciate some of REA's works, these are TERRIBLE and not worth one penny. IMO of course

New RAE , by stvro22 on Mar 15, 2017 22:50:04 GMT 1, Totally disagree. His work has gotten progressively better. His last show had some amazing pieces. The work is more mature and maybe not the type that appeals to fans of stencil work. I think some people are missing the boat on RAE. Go through his Instagram from recent to older stuff and maybe you'll see where I'm coming from.

New RAE , by Dexter Bulldog on Mar 15, 2017 23:07:23 GMT 1, I'm not sure I get the stencil fan comment. I dont remember Rae ever being big on stencils, yet quite a few of us are saying the same thing: we liked his stuff in the past but the last few offerings have seem to gone downhill and are easy to pass on. Sometimes it's even a head scratcher as to who would buy it, but that's art for ya, everyone gets to have a different opinion

Not taking a dig, am a huge fan of RAE, but i don't see a progression over time, rather a back and forth between 2-3 styles he seems to like

New RAE , by mla on Mar 15, 2017 23:16:46 GMT 1, For my tastes, he has gone in a direction I don't so much care for. Still have an "Unravel" print on the wall and I enjoy it very much.
That being said, someone out there apparently likes these, as there are only 2 left.

New RAE , by Street Art Fan on Mar 16, 2017 0:25:13 GMT 1, In my opinion, his high point was his show at Signal Gallery. I don't know if it's just a matter of spending less time developing his pieces (most of his output nowadays seems unfinished), but his recent work suggests that he's abandoned his urban expressionist style for something much more primal. His stuff used to be beautiful, playful; now it's messy and ill-conceived.

Yes I have a framed Unravel love it, bought a small watercolor around that time I like also. I thought the bodega show great, the Chinatown show wonderful, thought he was on to something but it seems a bit wandering currently with work scribbled periodically to pay the bills.

The sculptures and 3D pieces at the New Years show were amazing, but I agree his stuff has been very hit or miss lately.

Didn't mean anything by the stencil comment just that RAE's work might not appeal to those that might be more into that style. As you said to each his own. I would argue that these pieces from his last show are stronger than any of his previous work.
