New Ebay Global Shipping tax on Artwork to the UK, by Fะฏ on Apr 12, 2017 20:23:26 GMT 1, Has anyone else in the UK encountered the ebay global shipping programme when buying on ebay USA?
Im speaking about artwork here, which is liable for 5% import fee rather than 20%.
it seems they only have set rate of 20% which you pay in advance and when you checkout on ebay.
I spoke to ebay about it and they said its 'good value' as it covered all fees from door to door. As you can imagine, i called bullshit - as i would pay ยฃ70 less if it had landed normally without the advance.
its a bit of a mess really as it is not clear what happens to that 15% they dont get charged by customs. Their tariffs are not adjustable to the different tariffs so it just seems a massive con.
If anyone is selling in the USA ebay on here i would suggest going into your settings and turning off the global shipping programme otherwise it will put off alot of people who know the correct import duties.

New Ebay Global Shipping tax on Artwork to the UK, by loartve on Apr 12, 2017 21:04:18 GMT 1, Agreed, I don't buy from sellers using the GSP as it adds 20-25% onto the price. It's also slower as it goes via some distribution centre

Just giving a heads up to sellers on the US store as ebay turn it on without asking. Is not a massive worry if you dont care about that extra moving about the print does on its journey as well.
ant piss innit!

New Ebay Global Shipping tax on Artwork to the UK, by tobeannounced on Apr 12, 2017 22:09:47 GMT 1, "Import charges don't include:
Any customs duties, taxes, surcharges, fines, penalties, or other charges which may be imposed on you by customs or tax officials after an item purchased through the Global Shipping Program has successfully cleared customs and been delivered to, or made available for pickup at, the delivery address that you specify.
Import charges are in addition to the customs duties and taxes imposed by country tax and customs officials"
So because of that, I no longer shop from US buyers who aren't willing to turn off the GSP on their items... most are happy to oblige though.

New Ebay Global Shipping tax on Artwork to the UK, by chrispa on Apr 12, 2017 23:09:31 GMT 1, I took up the issue of the incorrect charges with ebay it was like talking to a brick wall...they had no interest in resolving
Also, as I understand the T&C's the seller is only responsible for shipping to the export agent in the US, you (the buyer) bear liability for everything that happens to the item after it reaches the shipping agent (someone please correct me if i am wrong) I also dont buy when sellers use GSP

New Ebay Global Shipping tax on Artwork to the UK, by Jaylove on Apr 12, 2017 23:21:36 GMT 1, I've heard of purchasers paying the import fee then still getting dinged by customs. I avoid sellers that have that charge. I'd rather buy from a seller and get dinged by customs.

Where I live (Denmark), there are very strict guidelines and rules in regards to import taxes, VAT and customs in general, and I don't want to take the risk in paying 20% to eBay, only to be charged an additional 25% (import taxes + VAT) + fixes custom fee (aprox 20 GBP)... I'd rather just my parcel be procesed by the danish customs, so that I just end up paying what I have to one time only.

It was completely painless.
I have also sold half a dozen things to people in the EU without issue, I just make sure I do my part as well as possible i.e. Wrap it well, send it signed for to the depot, so far so good with everyone being happy so far.

New Ebay Global Shipping tax on Artwork to the UK, by Dive Jedi on Apr 13, 2017 6:17:09 GMT 1, That whole eBay shipping programm is a pain in the @$$. I have bought several things - art and other stuff - from UK. And they just charge you double for shipping.
The seller needs to send to an eBay shipping partner. And then the shipper sends it to Holland.
That's just doubling costs - not to mention double CO2 emissions for shipping twice....
What is the benefit to the seller ?? He can just go to the post office and send it directly to Holland. Same effort as sending it to the shipper.....
Bull$h!t !

New Ebay Global Shipping tax on Artwork to the UK, by Fะฏ on Apr 13, 2017 8:49:21 GMT 1, People just need to turn it off - ebay turns it on automatically now unless you tell them to fuck off.
Its not so bad for uk to us as you dont get the import fee fluff ontop of overpaying postage
