Art related dreams, by Deleted on May 21, 2017 9:15:16 GMT 1, Had a dream last night that I had a Time Machine, went back in time and bought classic works of art from the artists to make my millions in the future. But because I bought their well known pieces and stored them away they never became famous and the art was worthless. Very Strange.

Art related dreams, by Dr Plip on May 21, 2017 10:48:29 GMT 1, Had a dream last night that I had a Time Machine, went back in time and bought classic works of art from the artists to make my millions in the future. But because I bought their well known pieces and stored them away they never became famous and the art was worthless. Very Strange. I too have had that dream. It's one of the reasons that put me off the time-travel/shopping thing.
I also used to think that I'd like to go back in time and buy up loads of copies of early comic books, 1st appearance of superman, batman, etc, but then I realised that my meddling would mean that they would no longer be as rare in the future (my present), so their resale value would be altered. So then I thought that perhaps I could arrange to sell them all in the same night, to wealthy collectors around the world.
Then I thought, I have a time machine, I might go and see if I can find Jesus. Get something signed by him.
Then I thought, while I wouldn't take the risk of buying up famous artworks, in case I negatively influenced folks artistic careers (because they didn't get their pieces into the right collections), I could instead commission them to make me new artworks.
Then I thought, I should probably use this time machine to save lives or something. Like go back into the middle ages and convince people to boil drinking water or wash hands. Or to watch out for fleas and sneezes. But then I thought, what if the global population booms because of what I have done, ruining the planet much sooner? What if worse-Hitler is born because I wanted to save lives?
Anyway. Bloody time travel.

Art related dreams, by pingoo on May 21, 2017 11:32:41 GMT 1, You're certainly contributing. Fact is we are a handful checking the forum on weekend (don't mind Dr Plip, he is a bot) but on working days there is a very high traffic. Just wondering how people can afford art if they spend their working time reading the forum.

Art related dreams, by Deleted on May 21, 2017 14:38:12 GMT 1, It did also have me realise how I don't know how anything works. Do you think if you went back say to the stone age or medieval times you could actually invent anything? No idea how gunpowder is made, how a steam engine works etc... Apologies I should of put this in the general chat forum rather than the urban art. It was old masters I was dreaming about. Da Vinci, Rembrandt etc...

Easy way to find out who you can afford to lay off.

I often wonder what would happen if I accidentally slipped back in time to the 17th century or something like that.
Hand washing and boiling is probably the best I could offer them. I mean, I could describe a plane, car and the internet, but I don't think in enough detail for a blacksmith to make one.
On a related topic, do you ever find yourself marvelling at just how many things need to be innovated and made for a car or a phone to exist. All the inventions, big and small, that have had to happen just to get to this point. I mean, you couldn't show a circuit board to a roman blacksmith and ask them to recreate it.
It's kinda like biological evolution. Countless tiny steps lead to massive strides. Or something like that.
I don't even know if someone from the 17th century would be able to understand the way I talk.

Art related dreams, by Deleted on May 21, 2017 14:54:44 GMT 1, I think you'd be burned as a witch Plip.
I might be able to manage a bike with wooden wheels.
Do you think Banksy would exist as he does today if you went back and created each one of his works a week before he did? Sure it would of pissed him off and he would of give up.

Art related dreams, by Dr Plip on May 21, 2017 14:57:41 GMT 1, I was just thinking the same thing. Could you go back in time and become Banksy before Banksy did.
And how do we know this hasn't already happened?
15 times.
