BP Portrait Awards 2017, by Deleted on Aug 22, 2017 23:07:13 GMT 1,
Evening Ladies and Gentleman, I thought I would catch this years BP Portrait Awards, now in its twenty-eighth year of sponsorship by BP (any thoughts on BP sponsoring this event?), before it closes this week.
I've simply picked out the pieces that resonated, and spoke to me the most, and a few that I thought forum members may enjoy. I've also included the 'winning' entries.
I hope you like:
This piece reminded me of Holly Frean's work, which I adore:
This was achingly beautiful and quite haunting:
This may qualify as a few members favourite, along side Alan Coulson's 'Honest Thomas', I'm sure:

BP Portrait Awards 2017, by k2 on Aug 22, 2017 23:20:28 GMT 1, Thanks very much for posting these - this'll be the first time for 3 or 4 years where I won't get to see the exhibition, sadly now live too far from London to make the trip.
The painting of 'Jack' really stands out to me.

Picking holes & putting others down is a speciality, judging by his previous posts. Best ignored!

Definitely not. I believe many members here, myself included, have an interest in art which is beyond urban. I would hardly ever post in the artists you might not know thread if limited to urban artists.

BP we care about art and give a shit about the planet...

BP Portrait Awards 2017, by medichead on Aug 23, 2017 19:50:09 GMT 1, This is a phenomenal exhibition and I urge anyone who is able to get down there and see it. There are portraits that even standing a foot away you will refuse to believe are oil on canvas, they are just too photorealistic. Those aren't the only noteworthy examples, as csideguy has demonstrated.
You'll also be treated to portraits by Hockney, Opie, Close etc in the same place. Not to be missed!
