Question about shipping, by serpico001 on Sept 27, 2017 12:09:49 GMT 1, Hi all. I was wondering how people get around the problem of shipping prints abroad ? Have people done it on trust or are there other was around it when the buyer doesn't want to part with their money until they have seen the item, likewise the seller doesn't want to ship until they have been paid. Any advice would be very grateful.

Question about shipping, by Happy Shopper on Sept 27, 2017 12:15:08 GMT 1, Don't ship until you're paid. Send good pictures to reassure them. Let them pay by Paypal, which means they can make a claim if anything is wrong with the print.
Edit: Ship with tracking and with full value declared. A naive buyer can be a bad a dodgy one, so be careful, and maybe take Bobs advice on the Paypal option if you're worried. (I've had people threaten to start Paypal disputes just because a piece is stuck at customs!)

Any advice would be very grateful. Also take good pictures before you send, make sure you can track the parcel and confirm delivery, and insure for the correct value. Unless the value is low of course.... I have never had a bad experience with a deal here, but people clearly do from time to time.

Question about shipping, by Matt on Sept 27, 2017 12:24:10 GMT 1, Would add make sure you and the buyer fully understand the shipping risks
- use postal service : cheap, but long shipping, long to process customs, and long to deliver, making many opportunities for shit to go wrong - use a courrier service, especially express, means a bit less risk of the above. However they won't insure art so the risk exists - use a service provider like flight logistics, they will pack, ship fast, and insure art, but that has a cost
Explicit emails etc about which service to use, how to insure etc is useful if all goes to shit

Question about shipping, by Happy Shopper on Sept 27, 2017 12:29:14 GMT 1, That's kind of unrealistic... unless you have a very bad feeling about who you're selling to! I know Paypal has it's risks and can be abused, but decent buyers need reassurance too (most of the time in my experience)

Question about shipping, by avec art on Sept 27, 2017 12:32:54 GMT 1, I've noticed recently, that some courier services which previously had paintings on their exclusions list (always read this) will now cover them, but only for loss and not for damage. But that doesn't apply to prints, which are generally more tricky to find insurance for.

Particularly with international deals, where a direct bank transfer might as well go into a black hole.

Question about shipping, by WOOF on Sept 27, 2017 17:11:59 GMT 1, Maybe not never ever, but these days, I almost never accept paypal (unless it's a gift payment.)
Way too much risk considering how paypal treats sellers in disputes. Too easy to get scammed.
Hasn't caused a problem yet...
