Plastic Jesus , by caruso on Oct 26, 2017 22:58:02 GMT 1, What the f**kdoes "an endorsed unofficial collaboration with #obey" mean? It means he's being irreverent, but in fairness to him artists keep copying one another and have always done so. At least he's honest about it. Mind you, it'd be hard to deny the Fairey link judging by the visual...

Mind you, it'd be hard to deny the Fairey link judging by the visual... I know that, especially in the urban art world, artists copying one another is pretty prevalent. But I choose not to support those "artists." Coming up with an original idea, or an original style, is what makes a great artist great. Rehashing other people's hard work to the point where it's just far enough away to be considered fair use is what hacks do, not artists.

Plastic Jesus , by caruso on Oct 26, 2017 23:24:33 GMT 1, I would tend to agree with you as I do not think this image is very creative, only a blatant rip off of Fairey.
However in the history or art, art has always been more or less 'inspired' the greater or lesser degrees by previous artists.
Very, very few artist actually brought something entirely new.

Agree completely. I have a feeling looking over his stuff it’s the fast buck he is chasing.

I have a feeling looking over his stuff it’s the fast buck he is chasing. I feel like a fast buck is what a lot of artists seem to be chasing these days (or perhaps it's just the speed of the internet, and how fast art is being made to keep up with it). I see a lot of cookie cutter "street art" being done now compared to early 2000's. Artists seem to be drawing 1 character, and just repeating it over and over and over.
I dunno, maybe it's just me. I feel like it's less exciting now than it was in 2005. But again, it may just be because of the constant flooding of images we see over a now much faster internet/social media sphere.

Blatant ripoff? More like birds of a feather flocking together (as usual ). "Endorsed" probably means fairey is getting a cut. And fairey's entire career is based on ripping off other people's images and making rudimentary photoshop edits.
And as far as political commentary goes, this is as banal as it gets.

No arguments here. But sometimes banal and/or unsubtle can be good too. I like the Disobey piece myself because it speaks to what an absolute shitehawk Trump is, and contrasts so dramatically with what came before.

Plastic Jesus , by itskento on Nov 8, 2017 14:00:17 GMT 1, I have this print from him I purchased over a year ago. He shipped it flat in between two pieces of cardboard... that was it. The first one arrived damaged. I messaged him he said to destroy it, take pictures and email him back. I did and he sent another. That was was flat and damaged... I emailed him again and told him it needed to be in a tube or I’d like a refund. The third one is still in my flat file.. I also didn’t pay the 380 he’s asking and it’s still available today... I think his art is over priced and it isn’t selling.

Plastic Jesus , by mushrooms on Nov 8, 2017 14:42:28 GMT 1, I've never purchased a P.J. work. If I were to buy, it would be the Robin Williams one, just not at that price. What is quality like?
