Big transactions how are they done on forum?, by darkarts on Dec 23, 2017 17:19:55 GMT 1, No because the contract that you create, you have full control in writing beforehand which has to be agreed upon by both parties as being received as agreed in the contract for the money to be released. If they try to do any kind of scam or say that the print wasn't there, then there money is secured by escrow until you receive your original item back or it is resolved. If you take photos packaging the item that serves as a backup also to show the escrow mediators. I'm not an expert, but it worked with me with a complete anonymous stranger from reddit.

Big transactions how are they done on forum?, by bbperez1 on Dec 23, 2017 20:08:04 GMT 1, I have sold some big ticket items from down here in Sydney and have always just gone the paypal road of money gets sent and once i can transfer it out of PayPal and into my bank i send the item. To be fair a lot of sales are done with a little bit of trust involved that is why i have only ever felt with long standing members or folk i have done hassle free transactions with in the past... These days due to data matching software the taxman has i would much prefer a face to face cash transaction which i would do in a Bank or somewhere similar just incase someone decides to do a Usain Bolt, plus always a good idea if you do a face to face have a friend act as a watcher out on the st or near were you are doing the deed...
Drug deal or Art deal?

Big transactions how are they done on forum?, by desmond on Dec 24, 2017 1:08:38 GMT 1, Hi all this post really got me thinking, as I was just about to send two snik originals to Holland and had not really thought a lot about what could have gone wrong. It has made me only want to sell to a uk buyer. I think it might be different if the overseas buyer had been recommended or lots of previous post on the forum. Thanks.

Big transactions how are they done on forum?, by Brushstrokes 75 on Dec 26, 2017 4:52:57 GMT 1, It just boils down from experience/ trust. A lot of good pointers.
You have several different possibilities though :
- Paypal : risk with paypal is the cc chargeback [easier in some countries (US) than others (Europe because of the pin)]. It did happen to me once (not on the forum) and it stinks because you also get charged chargeback fees.
Not sure if they have the buyer's protection for bank deposit payments now. But I could see a paypal (bank deposit) even coupled with ebay listing to be on the safe side for both (split the fees).
I got paid high end stuff via paypal in the past and never had an issue. They can temporarily block you the first time around you receive a big amount that is abnormal to your account, so they can make sure, everything is kosher. But afterwards, it just works fine.
2) escrow : 2 or 3 rd party escrow. It used to be popular 15 years ago but betwen cost/paypal and scams, it has been less used. There are still some respectable service that work well. 3rd party escrow can also work as another layer in between.
I see people are talking about shipping. People should check individual shipping companies policy. Art pieces as other collectibles are considered extraordinary items and most shipping companies coverage is extremely low ($500 or less - last time I checked). It doesn't matter if you pay their extra insurance and you put 4 times the amount, they will not refund the full amount. Better to have a separate (art shipping) policy just for that.
