Martin Whatson - Son of Man - AP, by manstone on Dec 24, 2017 0:39:51 GMT 1, Hi,
I got an offer to buy this piece of art by Martin Whatson (Son of Man, 30x30cm, Artist Proof). What would be a reasonable offer to make to the seller? I can see that the normal version goes for about 300 GBP on Ebay, but an AP that goes for 2250 GBP. Is that a reasonable price for this print also?

Martin Whatson - Son of Man - AP, by Masong on Dec 24, 2017 0:44:09 GMT 1, Pay what you’re happy with. It’s only a giclee and some were given out for free with his last print release. If you think it’s to much offer less

This looks unsigned. Gbp 2250 might be one of the 2013 editions. Few hundred Gbp is a fair offer.

Martin Whatson - Son of Man - AP, by soupy on Dec 24, 2017 1:15:28 GMT 1, yeah. where are you getting your prices from? 300 gbp / 2250 gbp? APs don't go for that much more over a regular edition unless it is a variation from the regular edition. also... there are a lot of editions of this image as others have said (giclee, screenprints, unnumbered, etc).
the last couple sales on ebay for this edition were for 220 gbp. the one sitting on ebay for 300 gbp hasn't sold yet.

Martin Whatson - Son of Man - AP, by detail on Dec 24, 2017 2:04:54 GMT 1, There's an AP on Ebay for £2250, but that's a large (100cm by 80cm), signed, 2013 version which is why there is such a difference in price.
I wouldn't offer much more (if any more) for this because its an AP, its still 30cm by 30cm which is more important. The price should be in line with the main 30cm by 30cm edition EBay prices or maybe a little more if you put extra value on it being an AP (which i don't), but not much more.
Also worth bearing in mind what others have said re there being lots of 30cm by 30cm editions of this and others sat there on EBay not selling for £300.

Martin Whatson - Son of Man - AP, by NYart on Dec 24, 2017 3:09:58 GMT 1, I wouldn’t pay more than $100 or so, the chinook hearts from awhile back that were unsigned are the closest comparison and that’s about all they go for.

Martin Whatson - Son of Man - AP, by ParkCity on Dec 24, 2017 5:59:49 GMT 1, Don’t buy. There’s one of his free edition of 100 on eBay now for 99$. It may not be an AP but it’s the same image. You’ll get enough joy out of having it in the wall

Martin Whatson - Son of Man - AP, by Graffiti Prints on Dec 24, 2017 6:11:27 GMT 1, Happy xmas all
As with chinook free prints and I stress FREE
We made 5 editions of 100, lemon, lilac, blue, white & beige.
We give them away free with big sales and whatson releases
Whatson gives away his half in comps and sales.
As with chinook it takes around 2- 3 years to give all away so they leak out slow vs a print release
They are not signed and with all prints not signed don't hold any value imo apart from being official and printed by us.
They designed to give the image to People who want it and missed out as small editions when released
To frame in places like bathroom and kitchens where you would be scared to place a signed print, Who cares if long term damage to a free unsigned print
There are two smaller editions in black and mint, both editions of 25
Most are cut straight, a few are deckle edge around 10-15 of each main edition and couple each on whatsons a/p editions (his colours), so this black deckle one is quiet rare and I think I know who I gave that too lol.
But regardless of that £100 seems high to me, I know they are popular we get loads of emails asking for one.
Wanted to clear that up so everyone knows the details and what's on offer.
We placed one in every whatson tiger sold with a zero or 5 at the end of number
Once again Happy xmas To all
I hope you all got your arty presents to yourself at some point this year, I bought myself a haring etching for my xmas pressie in maimi
Happy xmas all

Have you decided what you want for it or are you keeping it for yourself? I’d definitely give you £100 if you want to sell?

If it weren’t for Banksy I’d argue that the sentiment about unsigned prints being relatively of no value would be widely held haha. He’s the anomaly because of tremendous demand and low supply that normalized unsigned prints for us. Pest Control helps with that too, minimizes one of the major reasons some may avoid unsigned prints.

Martin Whatson - Son of Man - AP, by Art Fan 2011 on Dec 24, 2017 13:17:32 GMT 1, Most things in life have a value to someone. Chinook hearts have proved popular and these SOM look set to be the same. Unsigned Banksy's, Invaders, Whatson's or whoever it may be, if the artist is in demand then anything they put out has a value!

Maybe GP phrased it wrong but relative to signed prints they typically hold little value. 25-35% of a 30k print is still a big chunk of change though.

Martin Whatson - Son of Man - AP, by Pjam on Dec 25, 2017 13:29:09 GMT 1, Don’t spend big money on Whatson, once GP starts making unsigned/unnumbered prints (which isn’t too far away) prices are gonna tank.
