Where to sell a Banksy editioned original?, by themister on Dec 29, 2017 9:11:42 GMT 1, Quick inquiry.
I have an editioned original (/25) that I want to sell (son's university more important!). All paperwork and condition are perfect. I do not want to go down auction route and whilst am happy if anyone here wants to buy, which gallery can you recommend to sell it on my behalf?
Thanks...
Quick inquiry.

If you are looking to sell through a gallery try Andy at Castle Gallery. He will give you an honest appraisal and I have always found him very helpful.

Where to sell a Banksy editioned original?, by craigf on Dec 29, 2017 10:53:16 GMT 1, I'd agree with Neil that Andy at Castle Gallery would give a fair appraisal. Alternatively consider speaking to Chris at Laz. Auction can be hit and miss so it depends on whether you are willing to take a gamble or not

Both have good client bases and my experience of dealing with each with high value sales and purchases has been good.

Personal experience.... Castle is the main man for Banksy now globally IMO.
Let’s see how quickly you get a COA / change of ownership when you put down you have dealt with Laz compared to Castle.

Where to sell a Banksy editioned original?, by Dexter Bulldog on Dec 29, 2017 12:54:06 GMT 1, Yes Andy is your guy but you really could try here, you might be surprised how many of us there are. But if you’re looking for fair, quick, and hassle free, Andy is your best bet. Had many dealings with him and never heard a bad word spoken about him. Nice to see so many on here stepping up for him, that’s what years of honest, quality service will do to ones reputation.

Let’s see how quickly you get a COA / change of ownership when you put down you have dealt with Laz compared to Castle. Without going into details I've dealt with both in the last couple of months as a seller and its been pretty smooth. With respect a change in ownership the seller isn't going to be too worried about this are they (that is assuming there is an issue in getting change of ownership through, I've no recent experience so it would be speculation)
As well as who you deal with what you want for a piece is also key. A number of galleries ask you what you want rather than indicate what they think they can get you for it (net of their commission / margin). I have never worried about what they are making on a deal only whether my net position is a good one or not.
So @ai2bob we agree re Castle and obviously have had different experiences with Laz

My comments of change of ownership are more to protect the buyer.

At this price bracket fees are easily negotiable in the seller's favour. i'd be interested in this, going through a gallery you'd be instantly losing out on 25-30% 100% agree, galleries understand they have to be sensible re their commission percentages on large value deals. You don't pay anything close to 25 - 30% and often they have the contacts to get a quicker sale at a better net price for the owner than trying yourself.
As someone said earlier there are people on here who could be interested in a direct purchase

Where to sell a Banksy editioned original?, by Graham H on Dec 29, 2017 13:24:25 GMT 1, At the risk of dipping my toe into something that really doesnt involve me, but if thats the case, why are you even continuing to comment on the workings of a gallery that you havent dealt this way with
I and other people fully appreciate all the help that is given on this forum ( and this is where i have learned a lot of my knowledge ) when based on personal experience, but giving your opinion based on not even selling to them and therefore no experience in their commission structure based on specific deals and also how long PC will take to authenticate a change of ownership is just not a great thing to do in my opinion
We all appreciate ( and get told regularly ) that you do have a large Banksy collection, so by that token fully know the market and like telling us all about it.. but please keep personal factual experiences at the forefront of helping us all rather then conjecture and hearsay
Thanks
G

Also, aren’t you trying to sell a soup can that has been on ‘tour’ and came back damaged, I assume this was with Laz right ?

Ok so in that case I would say you know first hand what it’s like to deal with Laz and by the sounds of it very recently.
Then again you may be happy with receiving something back not as you gave it. Different strokes for different folks.

Where to sell a Banksy editioned original?, by Graham H on Dec 29, 2017 13:41:19 GMT 1, Im not really bothered about getting into any kind of war of words about what is or isnt acceptable to me with whoever..
If you have a problem with that by all means PM me rather than pushing your different strokes mantra on everyone.
