About Face - Rugby Art Gallery , by Coach on Mar 25, 2018 15:37:15 GMT 1, One for the Midlanders. 30 March til 16 June All welcome to the opening night on 29 March. There are artists talks, workshops and on 25 May, an in conversation with Lubaina Himid (Turner prize winner) and Claudette Johnson
From the website: โEach spring Rugbyโs nationally renowned collection of 20th century and contemporary British art is exhibited and curated around a varying theme to encourage new readings and audiences. This year the theme of the exhibition is portraits, telling the story of some of the artists within the Rugby collection with help from loans from The National Portrait Gallery and The Lowry. The loans, which are all self-portraits, include Lucian Freud, Edward Bawden, Eduardo Paolozzi and Lowry.
The exhibition will also showcase new works added to the Rugby Collection, as well as some old favourites amongst regular visitors.
Alongside โAbout Faceโ, we will play host to a packed programme of events that will delve into the world of portraits further, giving visitors the opportunity to learn a new skill and expand their knowledge on the subject. Talks include an 'In Conversation' with 2017 Turner Prize Winner Lubaina Himid with Claudette Johnson plus a talk from Rugby Collection artist Winston Branch.
Visitors will also be given the opportunity to get involved with the exhibition by adding their own โselfieโ to the changing gallery of faces.โ
