Many of the prints were quite pricey on release so some good opportunities I would think.

No really.... what’s with all the bast for sale?, by Happy Shopper on May 21, 2018 9:52:44 GMT 1, I can only speak for myself, but buying Bast becomes addictive! They're such great looking prints... in fact, not really prints with all the hand finishing or print techniques with sand, etc! But I own about 6 now and 3 originals, and it feels like time to sell a few and buy some other things.
Like Paul Insect, his time is well overdue.

No really.... what’s with all the bast for sale?, by Street Art Fan on May 21, 2018 15:43:10 GMT 1, Maybe it's cyclical? During the early years of the forum, it seems Bast pieces exchanged hands pretty regularly. Then it died down. Now, it seems to be picking up again. It's likely just a coincidence that certain members have decided to sell their pieces all at the same time.
To me, the more revealing question is how a commercial hack like Jerkface nowadays can command $2000 for a giclee variant when far more interesting limited edition Bast screenprints continue to sell for around $500. On the plus side, price stability all but guarantees that his works won't fall into the hands of flippers.

There has always been a disconnect between the genuinely brilliant, interesting, ground breaking art and the art that sells (for whatever reason) and that disconnect seems to be especially notable in the ‘urban’ scene.
I’ve given up on shrugging and rolling my eyes at how all the dreary, uninspiring, but hype driven flavours of the month become (briefly) popular before disappearing into nowhere. In years to come you can be sure that there are going to be an awful lot of folk flicking through portfolios of awful art that they paid way, way over the odds for and wondering what possessed them.

I would also say that there's never been an art scene that has been so obvious to pick the long term "winners" in.

I remember these posters pasted on the walls of Banksy studio.. Only these ones from... Bast.. Streetart is not only beautiful artworks or geisha but also contestation and rebellion. Bast and Pins ? Legends

That being said, hit me up if you're selling a Bast Popeye Doyle, willing to finance anyones next Jerkface giclee purchase

You know when you're young, you really like a musician artist, but then you get a bit more life experience and you realize your favorite artist in high school was complete shit.
Bast is alright, but I put Faile in that category. There, I said. Glad to have that off my chest.

Sorry, but time to sell and move on.

If you’ve never seen or held a Bast you can’t believe the detailed work that goes into each piece. They’re addictive to say the least, and unbelievably gritty. He’s constantly developing his style and not afraid to use paint, stencil, wood, collage, found objects, sand, tar, etc. Was hoping the recent seller would kick some over to US. Bast and Paul Insect are two of the best living artists and the fact they collaborate is amazing.

Ok well, of course there are artists that have done considerably well and also made a bigger impact on contemporary art than Faile and Bast. I guess I thought this was an Urban convo. Either way, yeah - Jonas Wood and Mark Bradford are great.

No really.... what’s with all the bast for sale?, by Express Post on May 22, 2018 3:21:26 GMT 1, I think it is better to compare everyone at the same time.
It adds perspective, and you dont get stuck with 'big fish, small pond' or 'peaked in high school'.
To be recognised as a great artist, you have to mix it with the best. There are no handouts.
But if we are talking urban, JR has really stepped up, and so too Os Gemeos and Bansky.
That being said, can anyone please explain madsaki to me?
His prices have doubled since last year and he keeps selling out.

Re Faile, I also have way less interest in them than I did ten to twelve years ago as, whilst they have improved technically and in the scope of their work, their base imagery has just become far less exciting. Aiko added so much to their work despite her solo work being pretty poor in itself. It’s true what they say about the whole being greater than the sum of its parts I guess...
