Buying art Does anyone solicit input from your sig others?, by Greyhound on Jul 11, 2018 12:05:10 GMT 1, I normally ask, but sometimes do my own thing if the answer is 'no'. A few years back I was told to not buy a Judith Supine "Eyes without a face" but did so anyway, got it framed up, and brought it into the house on my birthday
It's now one of her favourite pieces haha

Buying art Does anyone solicit input from your sig others?, by alinoe on Jul 11, 2018 12:25:52 GMT 1, I wouldn't say my significant other has the same interest in art as I do, but it's certainly present. As an architecht who has studied art history, she is fairly particular, but our tastes do overlap a bit.
As a few examples, before moving in together my Mehdi Ghadyanloo-print was taken directly to hers from the framers, as she liked it so much. She bought me a stay at the Walled off for my birthday, and she was the one who said "Let's get it!" when I showed her an available Pejac.
So I can live with the fact that she really, really dislikes my Icy & Sot...

Buying art Does anyone solicit input from your sig others?, by shy on Jul 11, 2018 12:47:21 GMT 1, It's so tough to ask for consent when you really love an artwork... better to buy then make your case to hang it on the wall
Worst case, you can always convert the garage to a man cave and hang it there!
Mind you...you might be living in that man cave too! Since the Mrs might give you the boot!
... ah, the things we do for love.... of art, that is!!!

Buying art Does anyone solicit input from your sig others?, by cashewman on Jul 12, 2018 15:09:46 GMT 1, My girlfriend likes my aesthetic (thankfully), but has a pretty solid one of her own. So I do solicit feedback, because she sometimes adds a perspective I don't see in a piece, plus or minus. I like that. Plus, I don't really want to ask her to live in an environment she dislikes, so want to know if she doesn't like a piece.
She's also been encouraging me to get some of the stored pieces on the wall, in small celebrations for life wins. That feels supportive, and in line with my collecting hobby.

Buying art Does anyone solicit input from your sig others?, by chevyav53 on Jul 12, 2018 15:28:53 GMT 1, I just tell the wife.... see these walls I bought, they're mine and I'll put what I want on them, you don't like it you can walk out that door of mine.... dear
Doesn't give me a hard time except about Pomet's Rojo... kills me as I am dying to have it framed but she thinks its too gory for any room. I don't push it, one day though. Have it stored away and pull it down to enjoy it every now and then... sigh
Its not like I'm filling my walls with movie posters or Paul Insect art

Buying art Does anyone solicit input from your sig others?, by pollz66 on Jul 12, 2018 15:56:45 GMT 1, Buying art is one thing - no problems there. Hanging it is another proposition. It's not a male v female thing, it's a taste v taste conversation.

Buying art Does anyone solicit input from your sig others?, by jay4077 on Jul 12, 2018 18:46:27 GMT 1, I got my Dad into street art, so he gets to hang all the stuff the girlfriend refuses to have on the walls. Must say my dad got quit the collection now, from Zedsy "Reduced soupcan" to Ben Eine "Scary". The one that saddens me the most is Jimmy Cauty's "Gas mask queen" in blue (1st).
I also use my dads address for having pieces send. It saves me from a lot of questions.

Buying art Does anyone solicit input from your sig others?, by The True Cubs Fan on Jul 15, 2018 9:27:41 GMT 1, I started collecting when I was single. So I asked no one ahaha but then started seriously dating, and am now married. Once we got engaged I started asking because I knew we would be sharing wall space.
With that being said, after taking her to a ton of shows, and getting her input, our tastes now overlap and we have 4 big pieces hanging in our living room. itโs currently working out though.

Buying art Does anyone solicit input from your sig others?, by chrisell66 on Jul 15, 2018 10:22:07 GMT 1, When it comes to buying I never ask - I just buy - although I am on a self imposed ban unless its amazing these days. But it also comes down to art was here before her so there's a certain amount of her accepting it.
Its the hanging where the discussions begin. Bedroom and living room are mutual - she has to see it as well and you live in those rooms so the art there is agreed - although art she hated when we first met is now loved so tastes change - that way there's still an angel in underwear above the bed.
Hallway - I just put the art up - she still hates Cauty - but Dead Dad is going up so its in the hall - look the other way. Equally our "second" lounge / my office is largely my taste - but the dressing room is her taste. We sort of compromised - the entrance is more wall friendly - once you reach first floor I start to introduce more challenging bits. The neighbours child doesn't get faced with Mickey Mouse standing over a dead body - or some old Copyright with tits everywhere
She keeps vetoing the Harry Adams posters mind - haven't found anywhere she doesn't demand them down.
I do listen a bit - sold a Rone I loved - she hated - but I do have 6 other Rones so giving one up isn't the end of the world. Oh look I sold that one you didn't like ......
