who's the Artist? , by Guy Denning on Aug 12, 2018 11:25:05 GMT 1, I don't think it's a signature. Looks like French for 5 July 46 in the style of Picasso. It's a nice confident drawing; I'd be happy to have it on a wall. Good find! Looks like it might be a copy or faked (or inspired by Picasso). He drew in that style in the 40s. But the fiddly line work at the base certainly gives it away as NOT being a Picasso. In my opinion...

who's the Artist? , by Express Post on Aug 12, 2018 11:27:50 GMT 1, Pretty piece!
Looks picassoesque.
Hello, i bought this beauty from my local charity shop does anyone on here know who the artist is? I cannot make out the signature. It came professionally framed. I'd love to see the Artist other works, can anyone help? I really appreciate it. Also i know this doesn't fall into the category for urban art. Thanks

I've got a fake Picasso here that I picked up for diddly squat but was beautifully done. West Country Picasso... that's where it's at.

Guy Denning is correct.
The top-left corner states the date of creation in French: 5 juillet 46
This image features Françoise Gilot, Picasso's new companion at the time. It's called Françoise au bandeau (a title also used to refer to a few other works). Pencil on vellum drawing paper.
Part of the collection of the Musée Picasso in Paris. You can search for it here:
www.museepicassoparis.fr/en/search/
There were plenty of other line drawings of Gilot created on the same date and during that period. Google will assist you in finding them.
__________
The framed work you own may be a generic reproduction.
But if chance has favoured you, or if you chose the right god(s) to pray to, the piece may actually be an authorised lithograph by Fernand Mourlot — and therefore produced in collaboration with the artist.

I don’t know sorry it’s quite big x it may be a silkscreen after a drawing of 1946 on paper velin d'arches 300g / m2. I do not think it's a pencil on paper, difficult to say without seeing it, but in any case it is superb! Congratulations.

who's the Artist? , by Dive Jedi on Aug 12, 2018 14:01:25 GMT 1, Speaking about finding stuff; I was looking for an empty tube at my parents house to ship a print.
While going through a bunch of them I found this in one of them….. Appears to be a commemorative print of some sort? My mom went: "Ah, you found the Picasso. Was wondering where that was!"

Is it pencil or a print.
Possibly an Elmyr or similar forgery.

Its not pencil at all it must be printed. Also the thin print has been stuck down with some type of glue on card i think to protect it its very thinly printed. It smells very odd like old books.

who's the Artist? , by moron on Aug 13, 2018 14:16:15 GMT 1, So it's before 1999 at least as thats when 01 numbers stopped being used in London. It looks like a good quality print more than likely produced under licence by a company.
I imagine all the Mourlot prints would be annotated and numbered and maybe on different paper.
I'd keep it. Hang it on the wall and enjoy it.

Your print appears to be dry mounted which potentially means that the information, if any, is hidden/lost. No idea if this is one.
Either way, this is a nice find.
As others have said, re-frame it, put it on the wall and enjoy it.

who's the Artist? , by met on Aug 13, 2018 17:12:47 GMT 1, Wow thanks Met, really useful information. I don’t know much outside of urban art thanks for the info x
No problem.
Although the studio had long-since moved, I used to live on the same street as the early premises of Atelier Mourlot — rue de Chabrol in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. It's interesting to consider all the artists who would have spent extended periods of time there: Picasso, Matisse, Braque, Bonnard, Miró et al.
Robert Doisneau has a vast body of work, but one of my favourites among his images is a 1952 photo he took of Françoise Gilot and Picasso:
Ok, so I unframed it and now i'm just as confused, it was difficult to unframe and had many protected layers. Its not pencil at all it must be printed. Also the thin print has been stuck down with some type of glue on card i think to protect it its very thinly printed. It smells very odd like old books. [...] [...]
Not a lithograph, I'm afraid. [In your earlier shots with the frame, it wasn't clear whether there might just be a mat on top of the work.]
This is an offset lithograph, or possibly a screenprint. Most likely uneditioned and unofficial.
For reference, here are two examples showing what the paper looks like with Mourlot lithographs of images Picasso drew of Gilot:

who's the Artist? , by printminx on Aug 13, 2018 18:09:58 GMT 1, Hi really impressed by the knowledge of the members and their advice...... now I too picked up a print about 5 years ago in a charity shop, it stopped me in my tracks and I had to have it. Have had reframed as frame falling apart and no help or writing on reverse of print. I have spent weeks trying to find out who made it but as I can't decipher the signature I havnt got anywhere. I have asked printmakers and even wrote to the British Museum but no reply. Anyone got any ideas? I thought it might be something to do with Cuba and protest posters but still no luck. I think its a lino cut as you can see those little lines where the cut out sections show the grooves of the cutters but I could be wrong. This is my first post.
