Karl Wirsum , by kwatis on Oct 17, 2018 1:45:50 GMT 1, Don't know if he has even been mentioned on here, but he definitely deserves it and we talk a lot about artists/people that collect and revere him. Karl Wirsum, one of the founding members of Chicago's Imagist group "The Hairy Who," and still active artist at the age of 79. He and the Hairy Who were pivotal in establishing the art scene in Chicago (and the Midwest) during the 70's. Currently the group's work can be seen at Chicago's Art Istitute. Also he has an upcoming print release with Louis Buhl (don't even know when his last print was release, so this is very exciting).

Collected by contemporary art greats like Kaws (some of the Art Institute Hairy Who pieces are on loan from his collection) amongst man others illustrates his importance in art history.
I love how raw and yet playful his imagery is. It combines so many different styles and references all while utilizing bold vibrant colors.
I am very much looking forward to seeing more of his current work. Hope you all enjoy it too!
