Which galleries would you avoid?, by lynolush on Jun 7, 2019 22:38:19 GMT 1, Over the influence were truly awful. I bought a Mike Lee print from them . I got several emails saying that it had been.dispatched but they could never provide a tracking number . Nothing ever arrived and After 6 months and numerous complaints they eventually refunded my money without even a sorry. !

Poor communication. Didnโt ship something I purchased until way later than it was taken down from the show.

For what itโs worth, Iโve had very positive experiences with both Allouche and Thinkspace.
In any case, always give the gallery a chance to make it right if you feel youโve been wronged.

My biggest issue having delt with dozen of galleries has been with studiochromie as well - sends stained and damaged artworks in inproper packaging and then insults you when you try to politely get him to fix his shit

Which galleries would you avoid?, by juveniled on Jun 10, 2019 4:47:09 GMT 1, Max at Gagosian NY gave me a giant runaround during a purchase. Super unprofessional.
Also had suspicious interactions with some dealer called Vernissage Art Advisory via Artsy in NY who offered me a number of pieces yet were unable to reply with any pictures or background on the pieces. Basically any normal questions to confirm authenticity and check condition created a flatline.

That's disappointing to read about Vernissage, I was considering consigning a Jonas Wood piece with them as they seem to deal in his work. I'm surprised about Gagosian as I've also dealt with them and bought a piece from them and it was pretty smooth.

The thread is about galleries to be avoided. Perhaps you would like to share some of those. You must have had some bad dealings whilst amassing your amazing collection.

Bought some years ago a Vhils, before the hype, waited for the invoice, then wired money, then he refused the wire, indicated that the print was out of stock, got 85 euros retained by his bank by returning me the funds, asked him for help on this issue, and I soon became a "p... off dude". Not my experience at all. Offered them great art, they never buy. Burned my collection. Never own what they sell. Prices are over priced in the 10s of thousands. Offered me a Jonas Speaker print 10 days after I got mine for $48k. Triple the price. A joke gallery IMO.

Which galleries would you avoid?, by genesis on Jun 24, 2019 2:35:11 GMT 1, I know this is common practice, but Hashimoto (formally Spoke) have wound me up on first interaction. Was waiting for a show for many months, had been speaking to them (and artist) on the regular, very keen for pre-sale. Got the email, replied instantly with my choice and request for purchase. They waited 3 days, then I got the 'denied' email. Purchasing an original for me is a big deal - and takes months (maybe years) of saving. So yeh, I'm pretty bitter at the moment. This apparently is their method for allocating pieces: spoke-art.com/pages/collector-preview-faqThere's no way they have any of that info on me / my collection, so they just sold it to a friend / local. Very frustrating as there comes a point when an artist is out of my reach financially (normally pretty quickly) and with a baby on the way I fear this point may have come already. Another one to add to the 'should be in the collection' list I just don't deal with them all together, I've heard that some of the artists whose pieces they sell they have issues with getting paid. Sometimes it is easier just to reach out to the artist directly to see if they have an alternative means.
