Transparency in the art world, by ca on Aug 2, 2019 4:57:40 GMT 1, I've been an advocate of transparency in the art world for some time and to me it has been the logical evolution faced with the new generation of collectors (millennials). Got a lot of heat when speaking up against backdooring, preferred lists ร la Case, pricing secrecy, etc.
Seems like I'm not the only one thinking about this... The old ways simply don't align with the values of the new wave of people coming in the space. Transparency in the art world is somewhat of a utopic idea at this point but it's such a sheep industry that you never know... Anyhow, I thought those were interesting reads

True. But letโs be honest, there is a lot of opacity going on in forums, too. Plenty of purposeful speculation being drummed up here. All platforms will eventually have problems.

I think some artists and galleries have become afraid of social media and art forums especially as they canโt control what people comment about their work. Some galleries also don't like artists commenting on ANY forum or even newspaper site under their own names. In case the artist has an opinion that might conflict with a potential buyer's opinion... ;-) |
