BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Deleted on Oct 23, 2019 21:02:52 GMT 1, I think 95% of members here don’t really care about migrants, or about the 39 people who died today and are just showing kindness to the cause in hope B or his team read this thread and see them worthy enough to own a piece. It’s pathetic but it’s human. But it’s pathetic. Am not being judgmental am being real here. I disagree. I am sure there are quite a lot of people who are selfish and only care about themselves but I'd bet it's probably closer to 30% of the people here based on recent elections around the world. Essentially, I'd argue, about 30% of the population are epic assholes. That said, how would Banksy's team even figure out who any of us are? None of us are posting identifying information or order numbers. I understand the cynicism but I think you're exaggerating.
You are probably right. Am just tired of these past two weeks. It’s hedgehog day :-)

People post some very strange things on the internet! Do you genuinely believe this? Because to me what is human is imagining yourself and your family in the position of some very desperate people and realising how very fortunate you are by comparison. That doesn't exclude you from wanting nice things for yourself, but the implication that the vast majority would fake it all to improve their chances of owning a Banksy is nonsense.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by gibbin82 on Oct 23, 2019 21:18:24 GMT 1, Only certainty is that this place is going to be unbearable in a weeks time. I honestly think I'll delete my account and find a new hobby. It's unbearable now. It beat me today. Don't lose all hope yet. At the moment everyone on here has either registered their interest or run out of family and friends and there is nothing left but to bite their nails (and sometimes each other) while they wait for the disappointing shopping experience. In another week we will have all the excitement of finding who has been lucky and the moaning from some that will probably go with it

Couldn’t put on the floor as a rug, but not sure if it would look right on the wall and it would be a hell of a job to get framed

I think everyone is looking at the IP filtering way to simplistically. they would be generating a data base with all of the available information and then just querying it to filter results. A simple enough process that can be made very powerful.
You collect - Name - Address - Email - IP address - Mac address of router as many ISP route dynamically - Applications made to buy
You then cross reference your data base queries with POW mailing lists, Boat contest entries, POW enquires and and other comms source you have. Keeping in mind that the likes of face book has everyone's details for sale to advertiser (that's how they make money) same for goggle. This then becomes your filter tool where you can select any and all combinations to filter entries.
OR
They may do none of this, choose not to apply any of their vast resources and just pick randomly. We will never know exactly how but i am trying to illustrate how it could be done with not that much effort.

I think Vitrapend came across wrong, get what he’s trying to say. It’s not that people don’t care but I do think a lot people are more concerned for their own people/country first but are too afraid to say it ie. families and kids in poverty, ex war veterans living on the streets, kids living on the streets, pensioners really struggling... the list goes on.
There is a lot of greed in this forum, always will be when there’s money to be made, when this is over the bitchiness and thread will fade away until the next time profit can be made from art.
I give to charity, never given to refugees, may do in the future but I’d rather give to an ex war veterans charity or kids cancer hospital. Everybody is different and has different views..

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by jonti on Oct 24, 2019 6:56:17 GMT 1, I was on holiday in Abu Dhabi when I applied ! Only carted one item but the IP thing could be a minefield. Hopefully they will cross ref my name and address from years ago during pest control comms Would be strange if the IP address not being related to home address puts me in the bin. Good luck to everyone who applied and wish to keep whatever they wanted. If I am successful or not, I probably won’t be back on here for another few years anyway.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by case on Oct 24, 2019 7:29:47 GMT 1, Shocking to hear news like that. I read a few times that they might have chosen this option in hope for a better life. Some of these immigrants do not have a choice. They have to go this way to live at all.
Regarding the poor dead souls, people (including me) seem to be way more shocked when something like this happens in their own country. This is simply horrible but let's not forget the people drowning in the Mediterranean Sea daily or the ones dying even before reaching it in war zones. We just seem to be used to it already.

I understood what he was trying to say and his point is valid, I wouldn't agree with the percentages he spoke of. Unfortunately people will do things to put themselves in a certain light, I'm not that person but I don't feel any need to justify my choice to take a day away from the forum because my reasons were clear in the post I posted. I'd like to think I come across as a genuine person and have been brought up to be kind and nice to others. But people will always form their own judgements against others actions, regardless of the reasons, that's just how it is and how it will always be.
With regards to charities, people do what they can, I don't tend to give my spare change to the person on the street, instead I make a donation at a charity, my wife buys her clothes at charity shops or through ebay and friends because she is against fast fashion. I don't, I buy my clothes brand new, but that's her choice. I send a donation to a charity of my choice each year at Christmas but none of this, absolutely none of it makes me better than others, nor do I judge what other people decide to do themselves. We live our own lifes through our own choices and decisions we make on the way. If we raise a smile or some hope on that journey, even better.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by dismalrat on Oct 24, 2019 9:03:39 GMT 1, That has got to be the most moronic post I have ever read on this forum. You genuinely believe 95% of members don’t care about 39 people dying? Showing kindness to get a banksy... I think those kinds of posts are a fantastic example of projection in action.
It's also reflective upon the mindset of the hype surrounding banksy and the people who try to get involved and game the system (get as many pieces as they can instead of just being content with one they'd like)
Basically: "If I'm interested in getting a Banksy because it'll be worth lots of money on eBay, nobody else could really just want to have one and not resell it, either."
Yay. Greed. Banksy's work now attracts the very kind of people he spoke out against with his pieces.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by jones27 on Oct 24, 2019 9:23:52 GMT 1, The aim of all this is raising money for charity and sufficiently trade marking his name. I don’t think POW are that concerned with fairness. They will randomly pick say 1000 entries for the print (for example) and filter that based on the art question to decide the lucky winners.

It can definitely be difficult expressing ones self in this format. I keep trying to write a couple of sentences saying that I really appreciate you taking the time to share you opinions/worldview and they all keep sounding really condescending instead of genuine. All this communication would definitely be easier if we were all sat in the pub!

I keep trying to write a couple of sentences saying that I really appreciate you taking the time to share you opinions/worldview and they all keep sounding really condescending instead of genuine. All this communication would definitely be easier if we were all sat in the pub!
No problem, I write stuff and have to read it again to make sure I've got my point across without sounding like a lemon!

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by adewilliams on Oct 24, 2019 10:03:44 GMT 1, The aim of all this is raising money for charity and sufficiently trade marking his name. I don’t think POW are that concerned with fairness. They will randomly pick say 1000 entries for the print (for example) and filter that based on the art question to decide the lucky winners.
Or maybe the answers will be rich material for a future project!

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by seamusdorey on Oct 24, 2019 10:18:45 GMT 1, As GMA suggests, its important to stay true to one self. Living alone I often check myself and my agenda, I think it's important to reflect on your actions and the reasons for them. If you don't then the World, and the way you perceive it treats you, becomes that small 'window' you're looking out from.
My mother is almost in her 80's and she has always said to us, 'They were raising money for children in Africa when we were kids, there will always be starving children in Africa'. She said this in the context of 'Charity begins at home'.
Perhaps we should add 'Charity' to 'never discuss Politics or Religion'? I guess Charity is now Politics.
My belief, however horrendous events are, is that this is the status quo - History teaches us this: there will always be War, there will always be the downtrodden, there will always be death and famine. I am not saying this status quo is acceptable, sadly it just is.
The only difference is that it is OUR time, we are living through it and what makes a difference is how WE react to these events that counts - that is what Humanity is. How much compassionate and empathy we have for our fellow man. I'm still not sure my mother has a valid point but I use it as an example of attitide and generational perspective.
This is a stream of consciousness and I wasn't going to bother wrting anything, but merely give up on the forum again and delete my account. What changed my mind was realising this forum is actually quite important as a social document. If there isn't now, there will be a student out there very soon who will study this thread, either as part of their art or psychology dissertation. And so what we write here is important and goes beyond mere pieces of art we hope to be custodian of (we never 'own' anything) that everyone else here desires.
Art and technology has changed so much, and continues to change. Take a look at the art Jonathon Yeo is making with the help of Google and technology. These changes include commentary; never before has the man in the street been able to project his words around the World, and into History, so easily, thanks to the internet. A gift which in itself has fast become the status quo. Imagine if you had a resource to go back and read what ordinary people in the street thought of Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Picasso's Guernica or Duchamp's Fountain. I don't mean what a journalist or critic wrote in a newspaper or book. I mean people just like us, taping away on a forum.
