Urban / Street art home schooling, by ab3 on May 6, 2020 12:36:33 GMT 1,
I'm trying to teach my kids (9 and 10) art lessons. I'd love to teach them some lessons themed around urban / street art. (we've already looked at Andy Warhol, found art, colour theory and a few other subjects)
I see that Pure Evil is doing some on YouTube and am thinking about doing some basic stencil stuff with them.
But I thought it would be great to get a thread going where people can post some links to cool art lessons for home schooling. So if you have anything please do share it here.

Urban / Street art home schooling, by whattheactualf on May 6, 2020 13:16:44 GMT 1, Hey ab3,
love this idea. NGV in Melbourne have a Haring Basquiat exhibition online currently
You an do a virtual tour, and download exhibition labels (they nearly always include some in there for kid specific tours too) as well as an audio guide.
www.ngv.vic.gov.au/exhibition/keith-haring-jean-michel-basquiat/
Haring did a few large mural pieces in Melbourne way back when, so there could be some self guided research there- they still exist. If you have a chalk pen and spare window, you could recreate your own version of his mural on the NGV waterwall
Whilst I haven't searched for any learning tools on this Silo Project, maybe worth a browse siloarttrail.com/home/ and get in touch to see if they have any resources?
All the best, stay safe,

Urban / Street art home schooling, by Rock it Dont Stop it on May 6, 2020 16:54:11 GMT 1, Great idea! You should absolutely make stencils and spray paint some posters/prints with them. I work at a public library and have done similar workshops with youth of similar ages, and they love it. If you need help with materials, feel free to reach out and Iโll put together a list.

That would be great to get a list. Thank you so much.
I'm trying to use stuff that's in the house rather than buying bits, so was thinking of cutting up an old sponge and using that to dab on the paint, but anything that gives me an idea would be great.
Also want to teach them a bit about the history of stencil art, Blek, Banksy, Obey etc.

Urban / Street art home schooling, by damo on May 7, 2020 11:01:54 GMT 1, Mine are similar age and we made some flower measuring sticks out of old decking boards, some stencils and paint, which they loved doing. More exciting use of face masks than the weekly trip to Sainsburys! Bit of trial and error but they got there in the end (boards clearly way too big for the pots mind), and we just burnt all the fails in a fire pit. You'll need some cans, card for stencils, and varnish to finish but other than that anything to paint on really will do the job. An old Eelus stencil proved most popular with my two..
(Apologies, as I am very conscious my contributions to UAA are now primarily DIY and kids art! God I'm getting old/boring)
