Don't get your work framed at Michael's, by mikegood on Nov 2, 2020 15:29:22 GMT 1, I was in Michael's Craft's here in the US picking up some supplies and noticed an image from the framing room, which is an open room towards the back of the store.. Sitting there was a Keith Haring Pop Shop III print (not poster as I got a closer look). I asked "Is that a legit Haring sitting on the floor??" about 30 minutes after originally seeing it there. The clerk noticed I was triggered by it and picked it up. lol
Moral of the story โ Use a good framer

Don't get your work framed at Michael's, by Lord Lucas Roham on Nov 2, 2020 15:35:33 GMT 1, Oh dear, not really an issue unless it gets damaged though. Looks relatively safe on the ground.

I've had pretty upscale places use tape on the back of expensive pieces, and now even steer clear from places that use "acid free" backing and mat board and stick to those who use "cotton rag" which is more acid free than "acid free" as I understand it.

Print was affixed with adhesive and pressed directly against glass.
Got on here and started learning, and the whole frame job just felt off. It bothered me to see the print on my wall. About 18 months later I took it to a trusted framer. He was aghast at the work they had done.

Don't get your work framed at Michael's, by brycepen on Nov 2, 2020 23:04:39 GMT 1, Not to mention the fact that they are absolutely insane with pricing. I wanted to get a relatively small print (about 60cm x 60cm) framed with a basic frame, only frill was that I wanted double matting. Even with a promotion offering 70% off of the regular pricing, they wanted about $450 to do the job. I told them I might as well go out and get a miter saw, some plexi, and some sticks of wood to do it myself.

Don't get your work framed at Michael's, by gd79 on Nov 2, 2020 23:56:05 GMT 1, Cheap framing is the falsest of false economies. I've got plenty of prints for which the frame is worth more than the piece.
I read a piece, I think in an essay on reading and music, that the price of a book is not the cost on the sticker. It is the time spent reading it.
Art is much the same. The cost is rarely what you pay, it's the wall space it takes up. If you approach it that way, the most cheapest piece you own should get the same love and attention as the cheapest. That doesn't mean the framing need cost as much, but it needn't be a bodge job either.

In fact, the cheapest print I own IS the best framed print I own. Meanwhile Iโve got some pricey prints that I meant to frame nicely sitting in files. Weird how that happens, isnโt it?
