Flight Logistics • Art Shipping, by Poster Bob on Jan 7, 2022 12:52:16 GMT 1, If you have a Mailboxes near you. They will pack it and then use couriers such as TNT DPD, UPS etc. However as long as they pack it it is insured by Mailboxes. www.mbe.co.uk/Small print on all couriers is that Art is carried at no risk to them for either loss, theft or damage This is very important. They all have vague clauses that refer to collectibles or anything that has appreciated in value since purchase making it necessary to buy specialized insurance.

Flight Logistics • Art Shipping, by trapnel1 on Jan 7, 2022 13:42:53 GMT 1, As a reference last quote from FL I received for a framed print to be shipped from the UK to Switzerland. Collection £ 35.00 Packing £115.00 foam lined plywood Shipping 102 x 20 x 77 cm Air £198.40 Or Road £138.00 Reasonable to think I can get a better quote for a similar service elsewhere? Depending on the value of the print, that seems a pretty competitive price to me....

Flight Logistics • Art Shipping, by John The Badgers on Jan 7, 2022 13:55:09 GMT 1, I'm still plugging Fragilistics!
I think their main business is shipping mirrors etc.
So the delivery vans are incredibly organised, everything secured/handled to protect the items on board.
Even when they deliver they wont allow you to handle anything until you accept delivery, and are happy that everything spot on. The platform they use is also very slick, giving ETA's etc within an hour.
They are the complete opposite of say ParcelForce, where if you are lucky to receive your item, it will be launched at you, with the packaging it tatters.

first class service and they also offer the option to act as middle man,
not cheap but if it is an expensive piece of art I wouldn't choose anyone but FL

Considering I was prepared to pay for the piece in full - Red flags all over the place.
Will keep this info to hand, thank you, love this forum.
Have a good weekend.

For unpackaged items, I struggled to find anyone who would help but eventually had a very good experience with delivery of a delicate item from auction using Pack & Send (https://www.packsend.co.uk/)

Flight Logistics • Art Shipping, by We Have Your Prints on Jan 7, 2022 15:54:17 GMT 1, I have used FL for a lot of things last year but the majority of my sends go through www.parcel2go.comThey have all the same couriers that FL use. If you pack well you will not have any issues. I would also always recommend doing priority shipping on the courier you use. When you use this service they take extra care and of course usually next day delivery. Further to using a priority service, I generally avoid shipping over the weekend if I can, to keep packages in couriers hands for as short a time as possible.
+1 for Fragilistics, excellent service. Had great service from EBISS sending from UK to USA

Flight Logistics • Art Shipping, by Graham H on Jan 7, 2022 16:05:09 GMT 1, Its quite clear the individual components dont cost those amounts quoted..but you are paying for a service, and they are business.. who function to make money.. so they rightly will add on top
Surely shopping around and getting the best prices is common sense..but lets not forget what people are paying for and that companies dont exist to work for nothing
Ive used FL in the past and were reasonable, but on other things they were more expensive..so in those instances, I didnt use them..seems simple to me
As a reference last quote from FL I received for a framed print to be shipped from the UK to Switzerland. You see this is what annoys me. Air cost will not be £200. And packaging is certainly not going to cost them £115 either. I suspect a return flight would be cheaper. Maybe pick it up yourself and have a mini holiday at the same time.

I’ve paid approx £550 for Flight Logistics to send a flat print (to be crated) from UK to US before but doesn’t the cost also depend on the value of the artwork to cover insurance? This was a few years ago as well. The buyer was happy with the cost (due to the high value of the artwork) which meant I was happy.

The only time I stopped in Geneva Switzerland on the way to skiing for something to eat, the meal cost me more than a mini holiday.

I would actually do that of this was not for the pain of travelling during covid.

That said, the first time I used them they collected an item that was already crated to a standard that surpassed their own and the crate arrived covered in foot prints despite being painted fragile, do not stand etc etc. They used a cheap and not so cheerful amazon parcel type carrier for an expensive item, i paid over £500 for it being shipped insured London to Scotland. Anytime i use them now i check which couriers they plan on using, FL are only as good as the couriers they use.

Just like when you check reviews on trip advisor, there will always be someone complaining the best hotel in the world is too expensive or someone talking nonsense about doughnuts in the rain.
In the past I’ve used a cheap alternative, ended in tears and a court case. For piece of mind use FL. Pay for what you get

Flight Logistics • Art Shipping, by Foolsgold on Feb 9, 2022 20:35:06 GMT 1, I come from an art handling packing background since 1998. I have worked for high end galleries at art fairs done work for Christine's and Sothebys and work for the British museum. I follow art logistics on Instagram and to be honest they are a shipping company first that inherited an art side to there business via this forum . I just watched there latest video of packing a floated keith haring print . There was so many errors on it . They put blue tape on the glass to stop it flexing . This is rubbish . The glass needs to be completely covered so if the case is dropped or badly handled the glass does not smash and fall off and damage the artwork. Also they shipped a hinged print on its side. I have seen numerous times where the print had slipped behind the glass as the hinges are now not the right way up. If you ship prints that are floated it needs to be shipped the right way up!! Cheapest option is to get a foam lined crate made for you and organise your own shipping .
Packaging is key and decent casemakers are cheaper than "premium" logistics providers.
25 years in the game 😉

Flight Logistics • Art Shipping, by LJCal on Jul 27, 2022 23:00:54 GMT 1, Hi all, I’m looking to get a fairly expensive framed piece shipped from the US to the UK, Piece needs collection and crating and then shipping with insurance. Does anyone have any recommendations for shippers that operate (outside of one’s that just do collections in NY or LA)? Thanks! Where is the piece located? I've got good contacts in most major cities. Just a tip I would get an all risks art policy from Ultimart and that covers you worldwide, it works out waaaay cheaper if you're bringing in stuff from abroad, the insurance couriers offer is a con, it's like 2% of value. I insure my entire collection worldwide for 0.33% annually.
