From the rise and fall of Pictures On Wall, who has been succeeding to POW in either way of thinking, quality and engagement in the street art ?

Absolutely no one comes close or probably ever will. Itโs now too much about making as much money as possible rather than focusing on quality releases and breaking new artists from across the world. As customers they really educated us.
The scene has changed too much now. It does surprise me the lack of original ideas and creativity plus how lazy the scene is getting. Everything also has to sell out in one second otherwise not deemed a success.
POW never promoted themselves as a business who would deliver high customer service expectations (part of their charm), but they were bloody good at it.

POW Successor, by Dice on Jan 24, 2022 11:24:51 GMT 1, Is there such a thing as street art any more? Not in terms of a genre or a scene I would say.
It was a movement of its time, very exciting to be a part of.
Now itโs all just Contemporary Art I suppose and the new galleries and print houses reflect this.

POW Successor, by user2006 on Jan 24, 2022 12:05:08 GMT 1, It was a different time when POW started. Online shopping was in it's infancy and Facebook and Instagram wasn't a thing.
We are now over saturated with artists and images. It's hard to see how the excitement of POW can be replicated. Infact, it cannot be replicated and nor should it be. However, that doesn't mean something new and exciting can't come along. It will need sincere and authentic art with a way of delivering it that's different.
Possibly a rejection of social media and online? Solely focusing on the real life experience?

Art is not like other culture because its success is not made by its audience. We, the public, fill concert halls and cinemas every day. We read novels by the millions and buy records by the billions. We, the people, affect the making, the taste and the quality of our culture.
The Art we look at, however, is made by only a select few. A small group create, promote, purchase, exhibit and decide the success of Art. Not more than 5000 people in the world have any real say. When you go to an Art gallery you are simply a tourist waving flags at a parade. A parade where the winner was decided without you.
We want to make Art that charts. We thought of calling it a revolutionary new way to sell Art but it's not revolutionary. It's just cheap.
The malls are coming out of the walls.
