City Planning - 1 colour screenprint , by ceriseris on Sept 4, 2023 14:25:10 GMT 1, Picked up the City Planning Artist Proofs yesterday (2 in total) and wanted to document couple of thoughts on the piece...
City Planning was released at the last apg _works blink fair. The lease on the building is up and by the end of the year, the gallery, at a physical location at least, will cease to exist.
The gallery owner, Rupert, had his home demolished a few years prior to make way for a block of flats and a fancy new office building for a major banking corporation. The office has laid practically empty for the last 3 years due to the pandemic and work from home contracts.
A month before the print release, news broke that the UK government were set to house asylum seekers on Bibby Stockholm, a make shift floating prison in Dorset. News that was met by various local protests from all sides of the political spectrum. Arguments ranged from "it's inhumane" to the usual"We don't want them here"
