Banksy · frAGILE · screenprint with CoA goes to auction, by elvier on Dec 12, 2023 23:31:53 GMT 1, A rare (fr)AGILE print will be auctioned off in Glasgow at McTear's Auctioneers on Thursday morning. It's the first of its kind to appear on the market as it's the only known example with its Pest Control Certificate of Authenticity. It's not from the edition of 50 that was created for Ukraine – those limited edition screen prints won't be issued with certificates until next year. This one was created especially for the vendor and was gifted (along with the certificate) in August 2023. It's signed and dedicated 'Thanks Chris' (followed by a peace symbol) in red pencil. The estimate is £40,000-60,000.

Banksy · frAGILE · screenprint with CoA goes to auction, by Acme Thunderer on Dec 12, 2023 23:51:49 GMT 1, Mmmmm… why would PC issue a COA for a gift print before they issue for the edition of 50? 🤔
No disrespect to McTears, but if 100% legit, I’m surprised it wasn’t picked up by another auction house.

Banksy · frAGILE · screenprint with CoA goes to auction, by JockoLad on Dec 13, 2023 9:09:31 GMT 1, Related to the show in Glasgow perhaps? Or….
Banksy has finally delivered to the Children’s Hospital auction but in an understated manner?
Same auction house and Grandad Steve was chasing up Banksy for a print around the same time the COA was produced.
This would make my year if it were the case.

Banksy · frAGILE · screenprint with CoA goes to auction, by LJCal on Dec 13, 2023 10:14:36 GMT 1, It looks fine to me. It was made clear to all those buying that COA would not be issued for 2 years. If Banksy offered this to a helper or for services for his show as payment/part payment it would make sense that it was issued with a COA to allow them to sell if they needed the money. I am surprised at the choice of auction house but could be down to timing given most of the larger houses don't have sales until March. This is a bargain at low estimate, and probably fair value at high, I expect it will break mid estimate assuming enough people are aware. Be interested to see how it goes.

Banksy · frAGILE · screenprint with CoA goes to auction, by Grillocracy on Dec 14, 2023 21:05:10 GMT 1, Looks like it sold for 50,000 GBP which seems like a great deal for a signed hand finished edition of 50 (plus this one for Chris).

Whereas major auction houses typically include the buyer's premium in their published sale results, a number of national, provincial and local auction houses simply display their hammer prices.
This inconsistency of approach is regrettable, since it can lead to confusion for anyone who likes to keep an eye on the auction results achieved by certain artists.
But the problem is not insurmountable.
Below shows how we can work out the answer to your question, independently and for ourselves.
***To members who already know "how to fish", please ignore the rather longwinded steps that follow.
__________
1. Note the relevant auction house and published sale price:
McTear's and £50,000.
2. Google the auction house name along with "buyer's premium" or "buyer's fee".
In this instance, the search results state the buyer's premium for McTear's is 24% of the hammer price — plus VAT on the hammer price, to the extent applicable.
See point 3 (Buyer's Premium) in the McTear's Terms of Business*.
3. If the published sale results of McTear's do include the buyer's premium, then dividing £50,000 by 1.24 (100% of the hammer price, plus the 24% buyer's premium), should lead to a clean number — i.e. a hammer price that could be achieved through the normal bidding increments of an auction house.
4. 50,000 ÷ 1.24 = 40,322.5806452
Since no auction house would have bid increments leading to a figure of £40,322, we can safely assume the McTear's published sale result of £50,000 reflects the hammer price only.
5. Additional charges
5.1 The buyer's premium in this case would be £12,000 (£50,000 @ 24%).
5.2 If applicable (in other words, if the winning bidder is based in the UK), VAT on the buyer's premium would be £2,400 (£12,000 @ 20%).
5.3 The artist's resale right, based on the hammer price when converted into euros on the date of sale (in this case, the hammer price being approximately €58,169.97), will be mostly subject to a 4% royalty (€1,000–€50,000), and partly subject to a 3% royalty (€50,000–€200,000), for an ARR in sterling of about £1,929.78.
Approximate total price payable by a UK-based buyer:
£66,329.78
(£50,000.00 + £12,000.00 + £2,400.00 + £1,929.78)

Banksy · frAGILE · screenprint with CoA goes to auction, by Minecrafter on Dec 15, 2023 11:30:27 GMT 1, Guaranteed one day the buyer will be in McTears. Would have been better investing his money in toilet paper. Banksy is a fraud and it's so funny how many of you bury your heads in the sand on that fact.

Just look at your Facebook feed. There is NO WAY all of those folks are THAT happy all the time and are always doing something fun or cool...

And if you have trouble hearing the lyrics, which is quite common on old punk songs, here's a transcript of the important parts:
"Baby baby what you gonna do Baby baby about your self You think you′ve found your Messiah And now you wanna convert everybody else You're such a bore Can′t stand you no more I won't go round to your place anymore
You're a disease babe You′re a disease You′re a disease babe You're faiths a disease I don′t wanna catch"
