How long can rolled up posters last in tubes?, by kad7374 on Mar 1, 2024 11:28:10 GMT 1, Hi, I've a few Tracey Emin gloss posters in their original tubes and I'm wondering how long they will last rolled up?
I don't really want to lay them flat, as many know they are extremely susceptible to marks?
Any advice would be welcomed!

The tubes are only used to transport the prints to you through the post. When things are rolled up you are slowly breaking the fibres in the paper which ultimately degrades the image and the inks used as well. They should be taken out of the tubes as soon as you receive them.

My plan was to take them out when thinking of framing and leave them a good month or so under gradual weight

I thickness and quality of the paper, the width of the tube, where you keep it stored. Obv not ideal to keep any print in any tube for an extended period, but I've had prints tubed up for 5+ years and had no issues. Flattening is a delicate process that requires patience, but done properly you wouldn't know which prints in my flat file had been in tubes for years.

If you have various larger width tubes, then roll them back round a tube and leave for a week or two, then gradually increase the tube width until they can be laid flat with some weights. Be patient, as it can take months to get them anywhere near flat

How long can rolled up posters last in tubes?, by Lroy on Mar 2, 2024 17:38:26 GMT 1, I got a print " kept " in the tube ( in the description) for less than a year ( It was a jboy with a dog, hopefully it was a gift ), it was worst than cardboard ! I could not unroll it, I mean keeping flat. Result : big creases at the 4 sides of the print. almost bottom and heigth. As scars.... I gave up at the end.

How long can rolled up posters last in tubes?, by monday on Mar 3, 2024 2:08:49 GMT 1, I have a Hirst unique print , 100 x 150 cm , approx 4 x 5 feet.
I have it laid out flat on my office floor, but framing isnโt in the budget at this time so Iโll need to store it.
Any suggestions on how to keep it stored flat ?

How long can rolled up posters last in tubes?, by kad7374 on Mar 10, 2024 16:58:55 GMT 1, So, I did open a poster up with cotton gloves and the poster is perfect, although I did find a pinch on the poster at both ends, which must have been when they were originally wrapped, so good news on the poster condition, but a little pissed on the bit of damage!
