Combined shipping?, by poorservice on May 19, 2008 11:26:36 GMT 1, Hi all - Apologies for the dull subject header but I'm currently selling a signed print on the bay and received a question from a potential buyer about whether I'd consider combined shipping (to lower costs).
Could've sworn I read on the forum about someone being stung previously by going down this route but haven't managed to dig up any previous posts after a good search/rummage.
I'd be grateful for any advice, thoughts or opinions (although I have to say I'm pretty cynical).

Combined shipping?, by Heavyconsumer on May 20, 2008 8:02:01 GMT 1, If the "signed print" is a Banksy, the shipping costs are pretty negligable compared to the value of the print. Why don't you offer shipping for free on the second item? That way you can still ship seperatly if you're more comfortable that way and the buyer gets the same benefit cost-wise.
Personally I don't know of any problem with combining shipping, but like I said, offer it free on the second item if that's an option. I think the most important thing is that both parties are comfortable.

Combined shipping?, by bennyhedgehog on May 20, 2008 8:06:51 GMT 1, Really depends hwo much the saving is and whether you think it is worthwhile... as for the combined shipping issue and problem arising from it...
Depends which way you look at it, but if for example it is the postal service you don't trust then 2 seperate packages is preferable... if there is, say, a 5% chance of not receiving the item then with two packages this is reduced or effectively halved by having two seperate packages... whereas putting both eggs in one baskets means if one is lost then both are lost.
As for not trusting the guy who receives it, if you feel dodgy about it then don't do the deal.
I personally dont like combined shipping, I think it is disrespectful to the buyer to skimp on something which is fairly neglible in the whole scheme of things.. I received three prints in one tube from a printhouse... and well, they made it through to me without damage but only by chance... one end was opened (stopper was lost) and on trying to remove the first print, it rubbed on the back of another... a total pain in the arse, one of them was hand finished in charcoal... it was like doing surgery, took me about an hour to extract them individually... if it wasnt for one of them being a total freebie I would have had a right rant about it.

Combined shipping?, by poorservice on May 20, 2008 15:41:34 GMT 1, Thanks for the thoughts heavyconsumer and bennyhedgehog.
Yes it is a Banksy. The interesting thing is that it's combined shipping but I'm not actually selling anything else (so he/she is suggesting packaging it with someone else's item - cue alarm bells).
Completely agree on both parties feeling comfortable so in this instance I've said that I'm not up for it. Thanks again Gents.

Combined shipping?, by bennyhedgehog on May 20, 2008 16:14:27 GMT 1, Euw... god no then, what a request. Sounds like a complete idiot... here, have an opportunity to rip me off to the tune of a Banksy - err, what's this guy's name?
