Lucy McLauchlan, by bennyhedgehog on May 20, 2008 0:44:54 GMT 1, That's the problem with buying soemthing over the internet, Andy... I love the piece and would have loved to have gone to San Francisco to the show and selected it and picked it up personally, but unfortunately I couldnt and was left the only option of selecting something in a rather hurried fashion over the web...
It is a lovely piece, but unfortunately given the reality of the size of thing (it is really quite small) as well as the amount I paid for it, it is not going to make it on to the wall - even more so when it appears to be quite easily "damagable" - not that it is flimsy, just very "black", so any scuffs or signs of mishandling will show and I just don't wanna be responsible for it in that way!!! It was never bought to be sold, but now that it has arrived I am looking at the possibility of it moving on.
I'm not looking at flipping it... given exchange rates, bank charges, eBay and Paypal fees and import duty... the starting amount is about fair. I know these are sought after too, so I have even put a relatively (percentage wise) low BIN on it...
All that said though, you may well notice it disappear from eBay quite quickly - this is not a "marketing thing", merely a "grow-on-me-to-the-point-that-I-cant-sell-it" thing. By the way, I did have the weekend to think about it, it isnt a same day sale.
On the whole I dislike "flipping", but reselling as and when for whatever reason is par for the course given the method of purchase, as well as the habit most of us have... Flipping, imho, has an innate attitude behind it and I don't think, though it is for others to decide, but I don't think I have those characteristics... all the other art I have is on the wall and is usually bought for both the aesthetic value, to me obviously, as well as a fairly low "commercial" (ugh?) value... I personally do this to try to keep any "little personal dilemmas" reduced to a minimum... the majority of what I have bought is originally low valued (a couple of banksy's in there, but usually all under ยฃ100 or so)... any higher value pieces I have bought, and I appreciate this may only be me, but any higher value pieces I have bought have ended up being "cheques on the wall" and I dislike them becoming viewed that way, but unfortunately it appears to be inevitable. I would have "advertised" it on here if I was flipping, as this is by far the largest community for generating a sale of this subject matter, but making money out of this just isnt my intention.

Lucy McLauchlan, by graeme501 on May 20, 2008 1:05:51 GMT 1, do u not think that u should list the size so not to be misleading in the auction ... which was 8" x 8" incase any1 thinks they are buying a bigger canvas than they are

Oh, you're not wrong... it was on there under "Size" but I moved it to a different subheading, as the one it was under was vaguely misleading, and size doesnt seem to be an available option any more , good point, and well made.

Lucy McLauchlan, by graeme501 on May 20, 2008 1:17:19 GMT 1, no problem, i wasnt suggesting that u were delibertly trying to mislead people, rather than it may improve the sales if people know exactly what they were bidding on
this is a lovely piece, i almost pulled the trigger on this, as i bought the other canvas similar to this one, but changed that to a larger piece instead
good luck with the sale

Lucy McLauchlan, by bennyhedgehog on May 20, 2008 1:25:52 GMT 1, Graeme, cheers for the heads up... I would have really liked one of the "round ones" but again with the whole t'internet purchase wasnt exactly sure what I was looking at, so went for soemthing more "square"... and as you know you get (or think you get which makes it all the more trickier!) so little time to decide to "pull the trigger" or not.
I'm still not 100% sure I will sell to be fair... obviously if someone makes a bid or BIN then it will go, but I may just take it down in a day or so... given myself 10 days to decide and bids only usually happen in the last 15 minutes or so!
I much prefer buying without pressure, working out which pieces go with which on which wall and so on. You seem to only get time with the cheap and unknown or unpopular ones now-a-days, which is very evident from the art that is on my walls!!!

Lucy McLauchlan, by Heavyconsumer on May 20, 2008 5:32:15 GMT 1, I'd been wondering what the story was with this. These look like lovely little pieces. I hope it finds a good home. I also nearly went for this (like many of the pieces on offer), but ended up choosing something a lot bigger on paper for similar money. Good luck!

It is very cute... but the size of it kinda works against it, even though thats what makes it cute... most of the stuff on my walls is of fairly similar and generic dimensions... 50x70 and framed up to something along the lines of 80x100 (cms this is), so to replace one of these with this just seems kinda daft... and would look even dafter. I should have bought four of them..!
So, the only other place it would go is either my office, bathroom or the kitchen and these are all a bit of a no-no, given the amount of general nastiness that goes on in them. It would be fucked within a week in the office.
I am umming and ahhing over hanging it somewhere in my Mum's house, which may still happen, though when I mentioned it to her she said she'd keep it safe by putting it in a wardrobe(!!!), so I don't think she's really understood too well what I mean, either!
We'll see, if a good home comes up for it then that's great but meanwhile I will be looking for somewhere to hang it and it would be nice to find somewhere for it myself - not like my 2up2down is suddenly gonna change shape or dimension or anything though... being an insomniac 24/7 smoker doesn't really help either - that's why the office is strictly no go!

Lucy McLauchlan, by Heavyconsumer on May 20, 2008 6:04:19 GMT 1, I think that you really should have bought a pair of these, rather than the one alone. That's what made up my mind for me in the end and why I didn't get it. It was either two small canvases or a nice, large piece on paper (which was also my wife's favourite) for considerably less cash (framed and all). Just trying to find a way round the Brazilian import tax of 60% now, as a framed piece won't fair too well in my suitcase later in the year!!

Yep, I definitely missed a trick... there were two there then as well... as usual, in the rush of the whole thing, logic tends to go out of the window as you see the things disappear before your eyes... I do have some postcards in similarly sized frames which I have tried with it, but they don't go either - the frames or the content, frankly, makes it look all a little "old lady" - 's'why one of the round ones would have been a prefeable option - commands a bit more space on the wall even though its not much larger... I have even toyed with doing an old stoodent joke that I've never gotten round to doing in a sort of "old curiosity" corner... put a little old lady plate (with a kitten or castle) on the wall with knife, fork and spoon. It's all too contrived though!

Lucy McLauchlan, by Imoy-San on May 20, 2008 17:57:17 GMT 1, I missed one of the other pieces, but I am sure someone will put it up for sale soon. It is the second part of the one I got. Both are needed to complete the installation.
I got "Behold"
