From what I understand, Google had/has an auction site in Beta that is built to take out Ebay. I will be glad if/when it happens as ebay has completely gone down hill and since their revenues are so off, they are floundering around with hair-brained ideas like the newest feedback debacle and they keep raising fees to cover all the users they are driving away from the site with their shitty policies.

ebay feedback, by craigf on May 24, 2008 15:23:25 GMT 1, Yahoo had a crack at them, but closed as has or will QXL in a few days. There are real positives with eBay, but it has gone down hill over the last couple of years with more and more scammers, shill bidding, non payment etc.
shame they don't seem to listen to their customers

ebay feedback, by idris on May 24, 2008 15:59:57 GMT 1, Well, i'm gonna take the wrath of ebay - as i can only leave 'positive feedback' words I choose to live this seller will be less than positive !!!!!!!
I find it hard to believe there isn't a competitor out there to kick ebay in the fuckin bollocks. I mean, not only do we pay ebay fees but we get fucked up the arse by paypal too AND to make matters worse, paypal protection policy is shite!!! they're a bunch of c**t imo

ebay feedback, by angel41 on May 24, 2008 16:27:36 GMT 1, Agree with everything said on here. On top of everything else 1 nuetral feedback is now worth -1% . It'll blow up in there faces because if no-one is selling they have no business. It will only take a few bad experiences for sellers to decide to f**k ebay off. Be interesting to see what happens with this 'sellers have no means of self defence' policy.

Sellers can only leave positive - and they can't even leave a positive with a negative comment!

ebay feedback, by funyoung on May 24, 2008 22:56:07 GMT 1, JUst to stir the pot a bit. Huge number of sales go through every day. Problems with buyers are relatively rare surely. All to easy for sellers to rip of buyers as it is. This evens things up a bit. At last I can leave negative feedback for sellers without them leaving negative feedback in return out of spite when I have done nothing wrong. Consider this - buyer with total transactions of 50 then each feedback is worth 2% of their feedback. Makes quite a dent doesn't it.

I suppose thats a fair point but as a seller who's had A LOT of buyers who haven't completed a sale by not paying for an item, it's quite annoying that I can't give neg feedback to warn other sellers. Yeh, I can claim back my Ebay costs IF the "buyer" confirms the sale wasn't completed but it's more so my time and effort in having to do this and then start the selling process again which can also doubt the integrity of my sale with the other bidders.

While your points are very valid, I have to agree with Funyoung. Most of you are sellers, but I've never sold anything on ebay and only have a few feedback. I've had some issues with sellers and been very very frightened to leave suitable feedback, because it seems to me that most sellers do not like to leave feedback 1st, even if you pay immediately, they want to wait until you leave it for them. If this were not the case and sellers had to leave feedback as soon as they're paid (because that's when the buyer fullfills his end of the deal) then the system would have been fairer, but this way I don't have to worry about the repurcussions of being honest. As an honest buyer this works for me and is an improvement! I understood that sellers could still leave non-payment notices that will show up, is this not the case then?

ebay feedback, by Heavyconsumer on May 25, 2008 5:56:14 GMT 1, I received a print in less than the promised "mint" condition (still good, but minor handling creases and whatnot). Also had a seller ignore 6 email contacts after leaving me neg' feedback for asking to pay by an alternative method. My Paypal account broke down for no apparent reason inbetween one transaction and another an hour later and I couldn't fix it. I was literally begging him to remove his negative feedback, left without a word of contact, until I threatened him with negative feedback. In the end he believed I was genuine and retracted, but it was majorly stressfull and I would have liked to have left feedback citing poor comm's and an unreasonable attitude, but didn't for fear of droping from 100% to below 90%.

Exactly, which is my main concern, as I'm a casual collector (by which I mean within the confines of the little I can afford and that I'm not a "dealer").
However for people who are honest sellers/dealers, I can understand why they feel irked. I don't think coming up with a balanced system is so hard, but ebay sure make hard work of it! I think the main problems are linked intrinsically to Paypal. That's where I feel the complexities start. They should allow and equally promote google checkout and other online payment methods such as moneybookers and neteller. The problem is that they own paypal and this incestuous and monopolous relationship sours everything for everyone! Ebayers have to worry about how these 2 arms of the same body will bend them backwards until they have problems. It mightn;t be so bad if Paypal were well-run, but it's a nightmare!

this is exactly my point - buyers have now been given free reign of ebay
its time for bates at microsoft to launch their own site. if mori were to poll users of ebay the majority would welcome an alternate site. why haven't google done something?
