Investment choice, by mammal2 on May 26, 2008 20:37:44 GMT 1, For me it will always be Adam Koukoudakis. Very underated at the momment. I pretty much only have Banksy now and Adams work on canvas. I would suggest you check out his work at Selfridges. To me his two works were stand out. If anyone would like his email drop me a pm. His originals are simply beautiful and HUGE!!! His studio is crazy also. Mammal says one to watch.

Edit: I have posted this on the wrong thread, (investment) or not, his work is coming along at a serious pace.

Investment choice, by dodge on May 26, 2008 20:50:32 GMT 1, I'm trying to persuade the wife to speculate with some of my 3 year olds savings, arguing that she's getting sod all interest in the bank and would be better of investing in some art. She agreed on ยฃ2k. So I am thinking signed colour trolleys? Any recommendations on a good investment? Please PM as I don't want to assist flippers! I thank You.
Honestly....your little 'un's future brass is not the thing to to be speculating with! Stick her money in high interest long term isa's and such like and watch them grow. They are low risk and highly unlikely to have the arse fall out of them, unlike the current 'street art' scene.
If you really want to take a punt, do it with your own cash!...(or the missus's

Investment choice, by slowmo on May 26, 2008 21:31:09 GMT 1, You can make safe investments in art, the place to look is a million miles away from anyone slightly involved in the Banksy phenomenon. Look at established artists who have a good CV, who are in their twilight years, two examples that immediately spring to mind are Bridget Riley and Peter Blake.
They have a consistent body of work which is admired by a large base, once they have passed on, prices will always go up on proven artists, the hard part is getting the best possible example you can afford (with your amount they will likely be prints, although for Blake a Babe Rainbow on metal is becoming increasingly desireable and they often turn up on ebay too) at the best possible price.
Your return will be not much better in the long run than a high interest account, but its a very safe way to make an investment in art and it looks better on a wall than on a piece of paper from your bank. Good luck.

Investment choice, by teatwosugars on May 26, 2008 21:54:57 GMT 1, I adore many of the works of Nathan Spoor (stunning abstract and surreal paintings) and his commissions/originals range from about USD$800 to about $6000, I also really like the developing style of Allison Torneros, who has originals available from USD$200 to $1000 but I reckon you're buying decoration not investment as I've never read a comment on his work anywhere and stumbled into it myself online, while she is still at UCLA studying the arts.
Good to see another Torneros fan HC. I agree that talk about investment cannot be associated with an artist still studying and it's been nice looking at her initial work this year without worrying about whether or not I can afford it, or whether or not it will increase in value. I thought her 'In the City' print from Gallery 1988 was fantastic; it sits opposite my Choe CG150 in the hallway, and gets a suprising amount of attention from guests despite being a relatively small piece.

I've also been getting into Adam's work recently. No idea about investment potential but the images are interesting and its still pretty cheap.

Investment choice, by thesewalls on May 27, 2008 7:23:04 GMT 1, my suggestion is find something you like and invest into it... stock market is static at the moment unless your investing in gold/copper - food exports...etc... as someone said you will have to look at it for few years so better to get something you enjoy rather than something you hate.... i wouldnt say this scene is a bubble just yet... people who visit forums / know anything about art are really a very small pecentage of the population... i sometimes forget and chat away about artists at work and no one has a clue what i am on about... for example in bristol and everyone heard of banksy but many never heard of nick walker... reason i think there are many more years left to this so called movement is because the majority of people involved buy because they appreciate art rather than make quick buck... and it is evolving out of the uk which i think is fantastic... can call myself a late starter but im looking forward to the next few years and what happens next...the discovery of that new artist which in your own opinion blows everyone else out of the water... that to me is more exciting... im sure when the time comes you will make the right decisions...good luck....s
it's evolving out of the UK? hahahah laughable, you like in the UK huh? and yes, a late started indeed. do some research man, try starting with graffiti in the BRONX...

I think he is referring to the somewhat modern emergence of brandalism/iconographic/pseudo-political areas of street art that have developed in the past 20 years or so, as oppose to the origins of 'graffiti' such as tagging, throw-ups and 'pieces' wildstyle etc which dates back predominantly to New York in the 1960s, and evolved under the influence of an emerging homegrown alternative youth culture.
