could google set up a rival ebay service?, by manchestermike on Jun 7, 2008 10:29:16 GMT 1, There are rival ebay sites already. I think no matter who sets one up the amount they'd have to throw at it to get it to 1/10th the size of ebay would make it massively impractical

could google set up a rival ebay service?, by stillborncrisps on Jun 7, 2008 11:33:47 GMT 1, Google could do it easily - they've already set up their own PayPal. The time is so right just now, eBay's totally shot itself in the foot pissing sellers off so badly.
Has anyone tried eBid (uk.ebid.net) - I bought something off there years ago and it was cool, but never tried to sell on it.

I sell wheelchairs on ebay and although have been an ebay member for 4/5 years and am a powerseller they keep the money on them until positive feedback is left

If they don't leave feedback you do get the payment after 21 days if no complaint is made by the buyer. It's a bit ridiculous. Wonder how much interest they'll be making over those 21 days...

EXACTLY!!!! That's all it's about. They charge the seller to list in ebay, they charge the seller to use paypal, they charge the seller a percentage of the sale as an ebay fee. Now they found a way to get an extra 0.2% or whatever it is on everything that is processed, so, f**k the seller (or whoever for that matter) let's beef up the profits, we can feed them a line of bull to disguise it as something feedback-related to protect buyers! That's all it's about! They are a f**king disgrace. That's without mentioning tha paypal already find any excuse they can to sit on money for a few days here and there at any opportunity, frequently making people re-confirm their accounts, when they know people may not get around to it immediately etc etc.. The ebay/paypal relationship would, I'm guessing, be illegal domestically in most civilized countries, as it would be surely be considered a monopoly. Google NEED to exploit the times and get in there. It's the best opportunity they will have to steal ebay's buyers en mass imo. I certainly hope they do and I hope that ALL of you switch, so that I can buy your wears there ;D

Theres more developments for ebay on the way, keep an eye on the ebay announcements board for updates ( they are announced usually well in advance of changes) most if not all changes are to enhance buyer experience so will obviously impact sellers even more going forward.

Google checkouts better ( for the moment) but they still have to adhere to anti money laundering regulations as per paypal, plus googles payment method is banned by ebay.

You can advertise it just use adapted keywords so ebay dont pick them up when they screen the listings.

could google set up a rival ebay service?, by stillborncrisps on Jun 8, 2008 23:00:34 GMT 1, There's a very easy way to get the new feedback system scrapped (and hopefully the old one returned).
If every seller silently protested by refusing to leave feedback for buyers, the whole feedback system would then fall down.
May seem unfair on innocent buyers, but at the moment sellers can't leave true feedback anyway, coz they can only be 'positive', so buyers' feedback is now a distorted view anyway.

Or choose not to accept PayPal as a payment option. And, state that only upon payment will the item be shipped. Then, good or bad or no feedback can be left and it's old style.

I have a few prints to sell, but having little feedback as a buyer and none as a seller, I am unable to list items without Paypal as an option. As my Paypal account is buggered, this is a real problem for me. While stating it's not an option in the listing, if it's offered, surely the buyer could still leave neg' feedback if that's how they want to pay?? And how does the payment method accept the sellers feedback liberty??
Plus, while there may be ways around non-acceptance of Google Checkout, the issue surely, is that it's not accepted by ebay. It's total bollocks! They are not giving their buyers or sellers a choice of how to organise themselves financially or choose the service that works best for them and it mightn't be so bad, if Paypal didn't have the worst customer care services in the world, but they do! Resolving issues can be and often is very difficult as a result.
