Excellent advice. I know it won't get your money back, but of course you should report the inauthenticity to ebay too. I would certainly contact the Citizens Advice Bureau and the cops too. Hopefully, if your facts are straight and your threat is clear, this chancer will return your funds. After all you can prove where you sent the money and why.  I hope you get the dough back. This makes me realise just how lucky I've been when I've paid by transfer in the past.

On a serious note, it may sound obvious but put his name into Google in "inverted commas"; it's a long shot but it's sometimes surprising what further information you can get. Gather as much info as possible before requesting your money and then hit him all at once....

Yep, do this. Also tell him you will take him to the small claims court to reclaim your money if he does not refund you (a threat of a CCJ that will affect his mortgage/CC/bank account applications might also get him to refund you).
The police might try and fob you off and say this is a civil matter, but do not accept this. Tell them it is a criminal matter as he has forged the print and thus it is fraud.
If his address details are fake, the police will have to go to a judge to get access to his real details (via his bank account details), but as it is a fairly large amount of money, they should be ok to get this.
Good luck, you have a strong paper trail so I hope you get a result and get your money back.

Obviously in this case with 100% hindsight it is possible to highlight the private feedback etc., but there are low feedback sellers who are ok. I think the main thing now is G-Man getting his money back and the seller what he deserves

Short story for you;
When the first series of 'Lost' finished on a cliff hanger I decided to look on Ebay the following day for anyone selling DVD's of the next series (I guessed it would be there somewhere as it had already been aired in USA)
Sure enough some guy selling hundreds of knock off copies for ยฃ10 each, I sent my tenner by cheque and waited.......and waited.........yup, ripped off for ยฃ10, along with a couple of thousand other 'Lost' addicts!!
Anyway, like probably all the others I reported to Ebay, but at the end of the day it was just ยฃ10 so again like all the others what was the point in reporting to Police etc? (Even though this cunt had pocketed ยฃ20k+ in total!) Clever little scam when you think about it, he knew people would be desperate to see the next series and at ยฃ10 he knew nothing would come of it!
Anyway I fucking hate being ripped off and even considered driving over to Leicester to the address I posted the cheque to so that I could try and meet the guy, again decided it wasn't worth it!
A couple of weeks later I sat round my mothers watchin tv with the patio doors open, I heard a scuffle outside and was amazed to see a mole crawling along looking decidedly poorly, it keeled over and died in front of me. On closer inspection it had maggots crawling out of a wound on its underside, all very nasty!
I was about to throw the decomposing stinking animal over the fence into a farmers field when I suddenly had a wonderful idea! I got an empty shoe box and placed the mole into it, just for good measure I added some fresh Labrador shit from the garden into the box, I then taped the box with selotape and wrapped it in brown paper, I then posted it to the cunt in Leicester with a fucking great smile on my face, it was sent second class of course, just to give the contents time to ferment! ;D
I didn't get my tenner back, but it did leave me feeling a whole lot happier!

100% True story! I am as easy going as they come, as no doubt a few members on here will vouch for, but I do hate being ripped off of my hard earned, regardless how small an amount!
I did think of shitting in the box myself, but then I thought they might be able to obtain a DNA sample from it!! ;D ;D ;D
