MY SHIT DEALING WITH "thetruth55" , by user on Jul 11, 2008 11:45:21 GMT 1, Over the past few months I have been let down by numerous "buyers" when trying to sell work to fund the purchase of original artwork and have missed out on 3 separate purchases as a consequence. Normally I couldn't be bothered to get too worked up about it, it is frustrating but unfortunately there are a lot of muppets here who like to waste people's time.
Recently, however, I had another one of these experiences that pissed me off to a greater extent. The reason I have chosen to post about it here is because I am so sick of dealing with idiot's s**t and the complete lack of decency shown by the likes of aka "thetruth55."
Recently asked to buy an unsigned banksy that I have, the print was numbered incorrectly by POW (from an edition of 350 instead of 500.) I never cared too much about this as it was just a number but obviously a new buyer wouldn't be too enamoured at the thought of buying an incorrectly numbered print which I completely understand.
Anyway, I said to that I would return the print to POW and have it re-numbered as they said it wasn't a problem seeing I was the original buyer. I phoned POW to make sure that they were still okay with that as it had been a few months since I queried the possibility of changing the number, they were fine about it.
then insisted that he wanted a new print from POW, not the same one re-numbered and insisted that I phone them back and sort this out which I did. He then wanted me to contact them again to make sure that the print could be re-registered in his name which again I did (again during my lunch break.) Finally he wanted an assurance that the print would not be returned to me but would be sent on to him in the US directly from POW which again I followed up on. POW do not take kindly to people phoning up with numerous requests which I completely understand and I felt s**t calling them up several times each day.
I then sent a paypal invoice having carried out his requests (which he insisted had to be met before he would commit to buying.) I waited and nothing came back, I sent him a second PM saying that I had sent him an invoice and heard nothing back. I contacted him again to be told that he didn't have the money together and that I could sell it on to someone else. I contacted him and frustratingly asked how long it would take for him to get the money together and pointed out that I had followed through on his numerous irksome requests. I haven't heard back despite the fact that he has read my PMs.
Quite frankly I don't give a s**t what has to say at this stage or if people piss and moan about me posting this, I am just so f**king sick of dealing with d**ks and maybe he'll think twice about messing people around and not having the manners or balls to come out and just say I don't want it any more or I bought one from someone else rather than having to be chased into admitting the "deal" was a waste of time.

MY SHIT DEALING WITH "thetruth55" , by jonpud on Jul 11, 2008 11:57:43 GMT 1, I understand your frustration as I have been messed around by several 'well established' members on here, I decided not to name and shame however even though I was tempted.
Fact is this is a forum and you have to remember it's primary function is not for selling and buying therefore there are no guarentees or contracts!
You can get just as messed about on Ebay, but at least there is a 'level' of protection on there!
And out of interest the messing about I had with an established member was an agreement of part cash part exchange for two of my prints, I got the cash but the prints never arrived, just a load of excuses from someone who has no intention of completing their side of the deal!
On the other hand I have had some excellent deals with various other members, even to the point of me sending out the artwork for approval before I got paid!
Integrity is everything!

MY SHIT DEALING WITH "thetruth55" , by user on Jul 11, 2008 12:04:32 GMT 1, The issue which swayed me into posting this is the fact that asked for a paypal invoice which I sent so now he has my personal details and that pisses me off. Thankfully I have moved address but not being the trusting type I'd be livid if he had my current details given the fact that he didn't pass on his own details for having the print re-registered in his name.

MY SHIT DEALING WITH "thetruth55" , by Deleted on Jul 11, 2008 12:12:17 GMT 1, i had a similar thing happen a while back where sent my bank details and waited for a big payment via transfer that never came. it is so frustrating. a 'i've decided against it' is all you ask for, it isnt nice, but it isnt anywhere near as frustrating as waiting for something that doesnt happen. i fully understand you posting this. i'll be staying well clear of this forum member, thanks for posting the info.

MY SHIT DEALING WITH "thetruth55" , by spirit on Jul 11, 2008 12:16:53 GMT 1, Sorry to hear about the problems you've had user - seems to happen all to often on here. Personally I'm all for naming and shaming as I think it is in everyone's interest (other than the time wasters). Recently been let down myself...
And out of interest the messing about I had with an established member was an agreement of part cash part exchange for two of my prints, I got the cash but the prints never arrived, just a load of excuses from someone who has no intention of completing their side of the deal!
And Pud - that doesn't sound like messing about to me, that sounds like theft.

MY SHIT DEALING WITH "thetruth55" , by bobbyt23 on Jul 11, 2008 12:22:30 GMT 1, I still agree on this one. I think nameing and shameing is great. It might stop people doing it.
However, the problem is when people start spitting their dummies out over stupid things like someone just not wanting to do a deal.
The ones below are perfect examples of people fucking over other people though and should be avoided by other members.

MY SHIT DEALING WITH "thetruth55" , by jonpud on Jul 11, 2008 12:22:49 GMT 1, I'll be honest with you User, I have asked in the past for prints I have bought on the secondary market to be re-registered in my name and POW stated it wasn't possible, all prints remain in the name they were originally sold to, I am amazed they would do it for you!!?
Is this a new service from them?

There was a lot more to it mate, and the member always replied to my pm's which is why I gave him the benefit of the doubt, it's just that it's heading on for a year now and the member was never proactive in pm'ing me first to keep me informed of the current situation.
I have given up on it as a lost cause, I don't beleive he set out to rip me off, I just beleive he now can't be bothered to sort it out and that I would just forget about it eventually. Well I aint forgotten about it and I never will, but it aint worth loosing sleep over either!!

Given that the print was incorrectly numbered and I was sending the piece back to them they could register the new buyers details, in normal circumstances they don't so as I imagine it would a logistical nightmare, you would have thousands of people requesting to have prints re-registered.
Bobby, my issue arises from people asking for personal information to be sent to them in the way of an invoice only to then then pull out, that along with the demands made for this print made me decide to start this thread.

Or a feedback style system somwhere so people can see previous opinions. Then again, its an art forum not a secondary version of ebay

That's what gets my back up too. As I said I have recently been let down by a forum member - deal was agreed over many PMs, I sent my bank details for the transfer and was told money had been sent. Only it never arrived.... a few PMs later and I've been given excuses that the transfer never went through because he had a chargeback on his account from his student loan company and he'll try and sort it out but it's all gone very quiet. I considered naming and shaming but I gave him the benefit of the doubt as he answered PMs and seemed like a genuine guy...could just as easily all be bollocks though...

MY SHIT DEALING WITH "thetruth55" , by craigf on Jul 11, 2008 16:11:32 GMT 1, I think the underlying issue in user's case isn't the fact the deal didn't go through its how it fell over and the hoops he had to jump through.
After a lot of positive purchases in the past of the forum I have recently been on the other side where I agreed to purchase something and then have had to back out. The seller has been very understanding and considerate, a real gent. I feel really bad about what has happened, I even still really want the piece in question, but there has been a significant change in my personal circumstances over the last couple of weeks that I could not control.
If the forum member in question is reading this thanks mate for being so understanding, you are a top bloke ;D

Take the first person who sends you the money. Dont hold shit for anyone until they make a down payment. Its one thing to ask questions about the product at hand but saying yes then stopping communication because your not man enough to say(in a quick manner) that this isnt going to happen is just plain rude.
Done venting

MY SHIT DEALING WITH "thetruth55" , by mishco on Jul 11, 2008 16:53:38 GMT 1, i had the same with a user called 'billhicks'. told me that a cheque would be coming for my grannies and told asked me repeatedly not to sell to anyone else as the money would be send up in the next couple of days, and then it would be a few more days, then a few more... after a couple of weeks passed he wanted all my details and the print number so he could contact pow for authentication despite me sending an email of the original pow reciept to him. a week later (we're about 3 weeks in now and 15 emails down) he says that i've to write to dora and state that he's the new owner of the print and i'd like a certificate to say so. i said i would do this once i was sent the cash. waited another week and recieved nothing. i asked him for his number so i could call to discuss what was going on and recieved an answer saying he had a bad stutter so he wouldn't be able to talk on the phone! got a message a week later saying he thought the prices had gone down since our original agreement and he didn't want to go through with it any longer. total time wasting cunt!

MY SHIT DEALING WITH "thetruth55" , by bobbymeachamjr on Jul 11, 2008 17:19:41 GMT 1, Most people are cool but I've had people flake out after holding s*hit for long durations. Now what I do is ask for a non refundable cash deposit in order to "hold". I've already had several people even put the deposit and still flaked. At least you get paid for your time. Otherwise, whoever pays in full first gets it.
btw - you usually get a feel early if somebody is gonna follow through

If you are going to call him out, you may as well call all the other jokers out that let you up to this point of frustration because it wasn't solely the actions of thetrthu55 that sent you on this tirade.

No one else has insisted that I phone people on several occasions to sort out their "new print" only to find out that I was wasting my time. Yes, I have had a few others pissing about but this just wound me up the wrong way - I like eating my lunch without shoving it down my face so I can use the phone on my lunch break to organize an imaginary print sale. It is quite possible that this was just a one off bad move on his part but he shouldn't have been demanding that I make phone calls on his behalf unless he was 100% sure that he was going to follow through. Like I said no huge drama but it's the last time I'll be doing anything other than sending photos of the piece to people.
Anyway, I don't want to rip the piss out of this so I'll stop my whining and let it be.
I've had nothing but superior transactions with thetruth55. He's a good guy. I don't understand why you haven't heard from him, but I'm sure he'll contact you soon and get things sorted out. MY SHIT DEALING WITH "thetruth55" , by Philippe on Jul 12, 2008 20:19:54 GMT 1, I think we should create a blacklist. Especially if the buyer turns a cold shoulder after maintaining consistent contact and demanding fickle requests. I don't know about you guys but it just gets to me when someone I am dealing with reads my PM's and takes forever to reply after having been spot on. It's almost as if this people need to know that they can buy these pieces without actually affording them.

MY SHIT DEALING WITH "thetruth55" , by thesewalls on Jul 17, 2008 6:53:07 GMT 1, billysport - maybe when he got your paypal info he saw you lived near him and may be able to do something once you received the damaged print? i don't buy that book falling story for a second, but i don't have any idea what really happened, in any of these cases, so i'll shut up.
Dank One - i think you're spot on with: "It's almost as if this people need to know that they can buy these pieces without actually affording them." Like those as*holes who bid on ebay items with no intention of buying, just to get the rush associated with such a surreal experience...oh my, thank god someone outbid me, that was a close one. talk about living on the edge. go play outside and step away from the computer!
in the end it may be as simple as people letting their excitement get the best of them...
Forum Etiquette, Rule #1 - COMPOSE YOURSELF. jokes jokes, what fun is that!?!?
