I was just looking at that one too before I noticed this thread - very suspicious looking to me. Seems some sellers are willing to take a hit on big fees for a non-existent sale so that the "value" is artificially inflated for the next listing (which will inevitably point out the fact that the last one sold for over 3k).
Bastards (these unscrupulous sellers, that is, not any of the members of this forum )

I expect they will claim a refund as unpaid so no cost at all other than listings

Shill Bidding on the bay., by loucastel on Jul 25, 2008 21:37:07 GMT 1, I know it's been debated a lot before , but I still cant understand the private auction thing, why would you want to sell it like that? I have heard all the so called reasons, but none of them ring true, scammers delight, If something is being sold in a private auction, however much I want it ,no way will I bid on it!!!

Shill Bidding on the bay., by RBK on Jul 25, 2008 23:35:29 GMT 1, There actually a very good reasonn to keep auctions private - it keeps other Ebay sellers from contacting your bidders directly offering them the exact same item for a lower price.
If you're buying a piece of art - you should know the going rate. So if you suspect something is being shilled/seems fishy there's an easy answer - don't bid & wait until one more in line with the 'going rate' comes along. You will find that many here (or expressobeans) can give very helpful information with regards to print prices as many of us track them.

Agree with you more than I disagree with you my friend However someone may say it would be attractive to a potential buyer for the anonymity.

As I said in my earlier post, I have heard all the reasons/excuses, and believe none of them, it just allows something to be shilled with impunity, and in a dormant market works just as well, if not better than in a rising market, as for being contacted by other sellers, that is one of the most common excuses, I have never sold anything by private auction and never had any problems with what you mention.
