Santa's Ghetto, by endtimes on Oct 11, 2007 2:21:14 GMT 1, Is it a sure thing that the Ghetto will be happening again in London Dec. 1st? I have 8 more vacation days to use up before the new year so thinking about popping over for a look-see...
But I heard rumours about a NYC ghetto awhile back ? anyone

Santa's Ghetto, by jonpud on Oct 11, 2007 8:11:54 GMT 1, POW definitely stated that last years ghetto would be the last one (how long for I don't know!) They also stated in a phone call that they were considering having it in the States, NYC was mentioned but I think LA was also talked about.
Problem is the amount of BS that comes from the POW spin machine means you can't beleive anything you hear!!

Santa's Ghetto, by pezlow on Oct 11, 2007 9:39:11 GMT 1, I think there will be a ghetto this year (I don't know anything that is just a hunch). It will only be a nightmare for print buying - apart from that I think the ghetto is great for seeing a wide range of originals by various artists.
Why not run one in New York and one in London with simultaneous print releases in both?

Santa's Ghetto, by manchestermike on Oct 11, 2007 10:00:06 GMT 1, If they run one it should be done the same way as Nu-Art
Nothing for sale, it's an art exhibition
Never gonna happen though

Santa's Ghetto, by themightyreds on Oct 11, 2007 10:15:53 GMT 1, Good call Mike. Was cool to go there last year and just see the art + prints in the flesh. Maybe they could put up a load of prints that will be available after the show so you can get a look at them before choosing what to spend your hard-earned on..

Santa's Ghetto, by jellya on Oct 11, 2007 11:05:14 GMT 1, Requested Bristol last year, and I'll do the same this year A bit of distance to travel might put off some of the baggers.
The sale of Flags last year in Bristol was the mosty civillised queue I've ever been in I think.

Put it in the Outer Hebrides and it won't put people off.
I think the main crux of the issue is the staff for the ghetto live in London, are they going to want to be in Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle, wherever for the weeks leading up to Christmas. I doubt it. London or nowhere I think...
It's a pisser as it'll mean, as usual most people outside London will miss out on a lot, but that's the way it goes...

Santa's Ghetto, by mcnuts on Oct 11, 2007 11:13:11 GMT 1, the alternative, of course, is New York. Apparently this is what they wanted to do last year but they couldnt find a location. I'm sure the staff wouldnt mind that. Would just mean a new league of jet-setting carbon polluting flippers emerge.

Santa's Ghetto, by ยฎat on Oct 11, 2007 11:46:07 GMT 1, NY or London is no problem... in fact, anywhere I will go for it.
The only big ? is if there will be a banksy release at it. Last yr for flag we had a couple of days notice...if they do that again, its cool. If they did that again and it was in London, well you could take the recent line for micallef @laz and multiply it by about 20... would be nuts.
I reckon it will be stateside...

Santa's Ghetto, by Neate Michael on Oct 11, 2007 12:10:52 GMT 1, Can you see them having it in London after the Mic / Laz queue shenanigans? Imagine if they announced a new Banksy print? It would be open warfare? Not a queue I would like to be in!

Santa's Ghetto, by finsburyparkranger on Oct 11, 2007 12:16:55 GMT 1, If I were them I would hold it in Venezuela or some country that actually deserves a bit more business. Although maybe not this year with taxing the booze so much.

Whilst i'm on the subject, anyone hear about the theory the Che got assassinated by Castro because he became a threat?

Yes. The publicity would be huge. Imagine now if Banksy released an edition of 1000. The queue would be 1000+ people before the doors even opened.
They don't care about us getting beaten up under bridges.

Just prey that if they do it like that they don't tell anyone the location until one hour before doors are open. I really don't want to camp outside all night for no good reason.

Good idea but not too fair on people like me who live in Leeds and have no way of getting there in an hour...
Unless they hold it out of London. Somewhere with poor bus routes so the Chav flipping mother fuckers can't get there!

Santa's Ghetto, by finsburyparkranger on Oct 11, 2007 12:50:12 GMT 1, They can say what time and what city, just keep the exact location a secret untill an hour or two before doors open. when people turn up then give out golden tickets to the first 1000 people that show ID and record their names next to the ticket number and then let everyone go home and come back and pay anytime that week or later on in the day. Simple.
Better for security reasons too, no huge queue of people with lots of cash in their pocket.
