New Orleans Rat?, by amsterdam9697 on Jun 4, 2009 0:38:44 GMT 1,
Well, having been in NOLA many times since Katrina for work, the pics all look legit and I have seen a shot of that exact work from when Banksy bombed NOLA... Being that the work was taken by the owner of the property, it's not akin to getting out the jackhammers ala Jamaica and taking an entire wall. I guess it was his to take so good luck with the auction. Not like it will ever qualify for any kind of provenance, but a piece that is a reminder of a truly dark day (s) for the US, George W, FEMA, etc... Christ, we couldn't get drinkable WATER to our OWN citizens inside of 4 days, so it was a complete meltdown on a grand scale. I would think this would be a great piece for a US Banksy collector as it speaks to both, but what will be, will be...

This is not the same work that has been photographed perviously, this image is a completly new piece and a good fake.
The original Banksy rat.

Man, the 9th Ward is HARD ghetto. I guess you have to see it to believe it. I thought that the Watts Projects in LA and Cabrini Green in Chicago were rough areas, but the 9th Ward in it's present state TAKES THE CAKE... So, I can definitely see a small Banksy on a staircase going unnoticed for weeks by the locals. They have enough to worry about and have no idea who Banksy is... squatters included...
That said I guess it could be a fake... But, hasn't anyone seen this before in some of the pics from post-NOLA Banksy? Like on the bottom of a store-front or something along those lines?
As far as the gift from the g-friend, I keep reading about parties around London & Bristol from 01-05 where they were giving away Banksy prints as party favors, so anything's possible in this thing we call life...

Thanks for the clarification, Ronhill... Sometime pics and images tend to melt, especially for those of us who spent more than a few years roaming around Amsterdam in search of a Graduate education... ;D
I'll go with the experts on this one and say it's probably a fake... but damn, it's a good one. Especially staging the flower pot as tipped over which makes the Banksy seem more than a little appropriate...

The rat is spraypainted on what looks like a sheet rock material that was chisseled off of something. It is not in perfect condition as you can see but it is pretty well preserved. It has been hanging in my living room for the past few years and has looked great there. Hate to part with it but were just in need of some money at the moment"

Dude, of course it's mine, but you already knew that... Christ, you were supposed to get me a quick sig from Banksy ala the First Great Weston thread, but you never came through... ;D
Just to clarify... NO, this is not mine. Ronhill wanted an opinion, and I got plenty of 'em. I'm more than happy on the left coast, no where near NOLA (great place to visit... like some of the tunnels around London) and still in search of an affordable, signed CND if anyone wants to trade for party favors

Looks like a patch kit, like I used to repair a wall after a late night of Sepultura got out of hand and I ended up tossing my buddy into/through a wall... Just a little "post-pub, too many shots" slam dancing as we all do now and then... Christ, maybe I do need to grow up... Peter Pan anyone?

New Orleans Rat?, by gregsglover on Jun 4, 2009 18:00:36 GMT 1, Hello everyone, im the one selling this... let the bashing begin, lol.. unfortunately no, banksy street pieces do not fall from the sky on my birthday.. would be nice if they did though, id be a rich man.. I have had my hands on 3 Banksy's. I sold the least desirable one i have on ebay a month or so ago. My wife did buy it for me as a birthday gift a few years back, i questioned it myself, i thought it looked decent, but clearly there were some off qualitys about it, and i had never seen a rat holding a sign with the phrase "who's banksy?" before. I need cash and they are the most valuable things i have, so obviously im selling them. I think this sweeper rat looks very legitimate, but of coarse it could be fake, who knows. im sure people copy his stuff all the time, Im in the car business and work 12 hours a day and honestly dont have time to go around painting fake banksy's and ripping them off houses. im sure it could be a very lucrative business though. with all that said... it looks real.. if seen a couple other sweeper rats around town, and i posted another piece in the street art section that id like some opinions on as well.. I've been a big fan for years, and do believe his work should remain on the street... but it will probably get vandalized or stolen... so i thought i should be the one to capitalize on the situation.
