CRIMES OF PASSION - Street Art in Bristol, by Steal From Work on Mar 2, 2009 22:22:27 GMT 1,
This Spring Bristolโs oldest and grandest gallery, the Royal West Of England Academy is throwing open all 5 of itโs galleries to host a major show by 50 of the cityโs best known and most successful graffiti and street artists. This is the first major show of its kind in the city since the Arnolfiniโs groundbreaking 1985 show, Graffiti Art and is a full-blown celebration of the cityโs rich and diverse contemporary scene.
Bristol has nurtured many of the UKโs most successful graffiti and street artists, including 3D, Inkie, Banksy, Nick Walker, Sickboy, and TCF Crew, to name but a few. The city continues to be a breeding ground for a wealth of exceptional creative talent and continues to have one of the UKโs most diverse and thriving scenes.
Crimes Of Passion takes the love of (and heartfelt dedication to) the art form as its starting point, but is far from a typical gallery retrospective, all the artists will be showing completely new work, as well as installation pieces and working both directly onto (and into) the walls of the gallery.
Crimes of Passion will also include a city-wide programme of large-scale painting, a photographic exhibit, a film season at local arts cinema The Cube (www.cubecinema.com) and a series of workshops and talks.
Venue: Royal West of England Academy, Queenโs Rd, Bristol
Dates: 21st March โ 2nd May
Artists: 3Dom 45rpm Acer Andrew Council Cheba Cheo China Mike Cyclops Dan Dicy Dora Eco Epok Feek Filthy Luker Flx Haka Inkie Jody K148 (photography) Kai One Kato Lokey Mag1c Milk Motorboy Mr Jago Mudwig Nick Walker Paris Poer Ponk Richt Rowdy Sainty Sepr Seza Sickboy Silent Hobo Soker Sums Tom Hine Voyder Will Barras Xenz Yaka Ziml
Opening night: Due to expected interest and capacity at the venue the opening night on Friday 20th March is invite only โ please email stealfromwork@gmail.com if youโd like an invite.

CRIMES OF PASSION - Street Art in Bristol, by ryskip on Mar 3, 2009 9:54:10 GMT 1, This is going to be quality, it's a shame that Banksy couldn't be involved but then the whole thing would become a nightmare with people queuing already but hopefully we'll see a new piece or two in and around Bristol soon?
Top top line up and a great venue, really does show how far this whole scene has come!
Nice photo's gerry!

The official website was done by a third party and it's a joke! And now we're having problems getting them to make the amends we requested last week. Bloody typical it's the one job we haven't done ourselves! No wonder I'm such a control freak!
To clarify Banksy is definitely NOT taking part in the show, and please don't think we're just being secretive or anything, we're not. Sorry for the confusion.
New site (we make) coming soon...
Jono

You're not wrong.
The vandals are running riot at the RWA!! Stunning, took a peek in earlier today it's absolutely nutz.
Nick Walker, Jago, Ziml, Acer, Dora, Dan, Kai, Epok, Jody & a very hungover looking JForceone!
Little bit surreal seeing the veterans (Nick Walker, Jago, Ziml) get their paint on as the 'new wave' took an 11o/c 'Scrumpy Jack & white widow' break on the 1st floor balcony of the Royal Acadamy, kicked back watching Bristols madding friday crowds!!
Cant wait

CRIMES OF PASSION - Street Art in Bristol, by Art-el on Mar 6, 2009 20:11:41 GMT 1, With 8,000 members on here alone I am fascinated as to how this event is being percieved or anticipated outside of Bristol and the South West.
I am disturbed to find myself thinking that the gravitas of this event is not being widely acknowledged, lauded and attended.
I sincerely hope i'm wrong.
For anyone with an interest in graff, street art and the like (I assume i'm preaching to the right forum) then this really is a historic exhibition in an 'establishment' setting.
Take a day out, visit Bristol and see what will be one of the most kickass exhibitions in years. It will smash the Tate.
The RWA (Royal Academy of the West of England) should be heavily supported and widely applauded for such a bold and embracing move. Allowing the artists to paint directly onto the walls 20-30ft high is just nutz.
Bristol City & The Arts Council should be ashamed at their rejection of the application for funding by the organizing commitee. Although some one quite rightly voiced that they'll be singing from the rooftops once it's a resounding success...!

I think it will be well attended from out-of-towners. Looking forward to seeing the artists smashing the establishment from the inside!!

CRIMES OF PASSION - Street Art in Bristol, by Steal From Work on Mar 9, 2009 8:52:21 GMT 1, We've managed to get rid of the previous website (I hated it!) and I've had a good friend at pixelinc (www.pixelinc.co.uk) do this one:
www.crimesofpassion.info
It features details on all the associated events and there will be a section added with all he work available to view and a shopping cart for all those who can't get to Bristol. But this won't be until after the opening weekend to allow all who attend first chance to bag anything. We're also putting up bios for all the artists (soon as they send them all in).

Interesting to hear that Bristol City Council are not sponsoring the show and is part of an ongoing indifference they have towards the RWA.
